GW lag on Wireless and Broadband.
Painbringer
This weekend thru today I have been getting DNS server errors (“Code 28” I believe was the number) on the initial login. I have seen others complaining about connection and lag problems on the forum so I thought I would check. I guess I have to ask if you think it is on my side or on GW side. I seem to have no problems doing anything else internet wise. Streaming movies over the net via wireless do not even have a hiccup, stall, or anything. My downloads and updates for other software work flawlessly. But yet I am getting lag spikes and problems on initial load. I even got a disconnect loss of connection with GW once but at the same time I was still online surfing? Please note this is on two different computers a desktop on broadband and a wireless laptop. I did install a new belkin router last week. I hope it is not a problem with it. It was a G+ style and I do not think it has a firewall built in at least it did not say it did. It was not too expensive 60 range. I have 5 bars on my laptop at all times so I am close enough to the source. If it is the router I would think it would hiccup on other things. Any ideas?

Use WinMTR to check your packages. Connect it to the GW adress you play on and run it while you play Guild Wars. It should tell you wether the connection loss is inside your home, with your ISP, or with the GW servers themselves. You can allso save logs and post them here if it's not clear to you.

There's been a lot of lag and disconnects on the internet in general these days.

You are probably right I did read an article recently that stated the American infrastructure of the internet is well behind other countries. And that they predict some major problems and outages in years to come. But who knows the article could be a bunch of B.S. for all I know. I can’t remember where I read it. I was more worried that the router was causing it, but since nothing else has problems I guess I will double check security software and firewall settings and carry on. Thanks

I think somewhere along the way, your connection might be taking a large detour to reach the GW servers. What ISP do you have?

Charter Communication which routes it to a town about 100 miles away from my house
