Laptops & videocards

I'm going abroad for 3 months soon and I won't survive if I'd be unable to game for that time. So I want to buy a laptop ( 900 euros ). It seems to be near to impossible to find proper information about videocards for laptops.

I know quite a lot about desktops but I'm quite clueless when it comes to laptops.

The only videocards I was able to finds specs for was the 8600M GT and the 8400 GS. I want to be able to play some games properly, and the 8800M GTX will be too expensive because I'm only willing to spend about 900 euros.

So, let's say if I wanted to play Far Cry 2 properly ( anything will run GW so I guess I won't ask that ), what videocard would I need?

Also, I need a place where I can customize everything. I have yet to find a website where you can pick your own videocard. ( preferably a Dutch website so I don't have to import, although there are many Dutch equivalents to the websites posted on here ( Komplett for example )

The 8600m is a very good mobile solution.

For Far Cry 2, you are most likely looking at a 9700m solution though. You might be able to cut it with the 9650m solutions (GT or GS), but the 9700+ would be a better bet.

As for Dutch custom laptop solutions... I will leave that to Snoggy or another European.

I have to tell you one thing dude: my laptop graphic card got screwed 3 weeks ago (i'm out of the warranty period) and the value of the arrangement of the card was about 300€. If u gonna buy a laptop to play, consider to buy a laptop whith a dedicated graphic card since u wont have the graphic card attached to the motherboard alowing to change it w/o changing motherboard. Other thing i think you should consider is: when you buy a laptop, u wont be able to repair it yourself (unless ur a laptop expert), because there is not enough examples or explanations over the web (unless u buy one of those new Dell laptops, which i think are the onlyones who have examples of componets changes over the web) to change your laptop components almost obliging you to send you equipment to a specialized house.

Yes, I am aware of this, I guess ill buy some extra warranty on it because I really want to be able to play games on it properly, so an integrated card won't do it for me I'm afraid

Another thing to budget for is a laptop cooler, especially if it is going to be used for gaming. laptop + gaming = massive heat, hot enough to fry your skin.

Do you mean a built-in one or one of those things that keeps the back cooled ? ( probably the first one ) I assume a laptop with a higher performance also has a better cooler in there. I can barely find websites where you can pick your own software, so another cooler will be impossible to find

I'm living proff ur saying it good. Always when i played more the 2 or 3 hours on my laptop things went hot in there (I never thought it was a issue till i saw my graphics burned up )
However there are some stuff that help keep things cooled down, but i dont know the name of it, here i sent u a link where u can se what i meant:

I hurd thats gud for laptop cooling, but i'm not sure of it.

Keep in mind that when u play in a laptop its not the same thing when u play in a desktop computer, specally in PvP environment. Screen, mouse and keyboard are small whitch can complicate your play style.

i think it's a geforce 8600M GT, maybe with higher clock speeds.

seriously if your going to want to play far cry 2 on a laptop and have an enjoyable experience your going to have to be willing to shell out for it. and as far as keeping your laptop cool while playing games an external laptop fan will work and be affordable enough. you will also want to bring along your headphones and a mouse the tracking pad on a laptop isn't ideal for gaming in any sense. and just a side note there are now external graphics cards avaible for laptops, you WILL have a hard time finding one and it'll range $250-300 US but they are out there.

Is it worth to take the GX620 for another 250 euros? Screen is also a bit smaller...
