Suspended for inappropriate name

Hi all,

I created a prema-pre character over a year ago named "Ruriks Biotch" that is now LVL 19 and 2000xp away from LDOA. Last night (in the middle of a death level no less) I was banned for 64 hours "to give me time to think about my transgression".

Seems a bit harsh to me. Do most of you find the term "Biotch" offensive enough to warrant a ban? Granted it is just slang for "bitch" which would be offensive, but using terms like FCUK for that other four letter word still says what it says, but I have seen it on Guild names and such.

My other issue is banning me without notice. I mean, if A-Net would have simply disabled my account, told me it was offensive and asked me to change it I would have. Then, if I didnt change it, they can ban me. That is just plain rude.

So, just wanted to see... is it offensive to the user community in general or is A-net being unreasonable?

Yep. (and so are the other examples you mentioned)

It is a censor bypass. Of course it is offesive. If you wouldn't be allowed to use Bitch, why be allowed to use Biotch? You weren't permanently banned, just temporarily. At the end of that ban period, you will be made to rename the character. All title progression on your LDoA will still be there. Stop trying to do what you know isn't allowed, and the bans won't happen.

offensive? i dunno maybe to some people. Personally it takes alot to offend me so I'm probably not the best gauge here. But there are rules about profanity and biotch is just a cleverly disguised version of "bitch" as you pointed out. So you broke the rules, resulting in a ban. Simple.
And most likely you will be asked to change the name. As i understand such things, thats how it usually works.

Thanks for the replies. I do agree that I was being creative on the "Biotch" but figured since it was allowed when I created it (and other names have not been) that it was accepted and acceptable. Its all good. I have asked for Leniency with Anet based on their reply and will change it immediately. 64 hours sure seems to be a long ban. I mean 24 hours allows me to realize the error of my ways especially when I play a LOT :-).

Its not offensive to me. but if its against anets rules to have the word bitch, do it make your epeen feel better using biotch instead? Your asking for it and everyone who reads this knows it. Plus anet dont have to do shit about warning you, its THEIR account it says so in the rules. They can do whatever the hell they please

I wasn't personally offended by your name but I figured that if you have spent that much time in pre getting to level 20 you could probably use a 3 day break from Guild Wars so thats why I reported you.

I got a 72 hour ban for Bunghole Mcgee a couple months back after using him for over a year - yet I see some names that would clearly be offensive but don't get banned. After I was banned, I went on a massive reporting spree. At the time, I probably would have reported a name like that.

Now I grew a pair and don't care anymore.
