Alright so I downloaded the Direct song GW music, ALL of it for 41.95 because I LOVED IT. The new music in game is AMAZING but im starting to feel ripped off.

1) I can't burn it to a CD because they said something along the lines of it would be bad quality if you could.
2) I can't sync it to my portable media device since its an Ipod and not compatible with WMP!!! Even if I had a compatible device I think I STILL have a liscensing issue even though I can play them in and out of game.

Did any1 figure out how to do either of the above without buying any additional software? Listening to all my favorite Jeremy soule music is fun and all but without it being portable that takes out like 75% of the fun >_>

You do have the ability to burn the music to CD. They even supply standard Jewel Case CD covers for you to print off. The quality is that of any other CD.

Once you have burned it to CD simply re-rip the CD into itunes and sync away.

It says I do not have the rights to burn the music though even though I authorized the music for this computer. I don't get it. also I CAN get it to say i have burn rights after redownloading them but only for a short time and they STILL wont burn.

Also says I cannot play file but I am allowed to play it anyways. This is so confusing.

You need to set your sound card to be your sound input device (It's somewhere in the control panel), then open up the song in WMP and open up Audacity, then hit "record" in Audacity, then play in WMP, and when the song ends, hit "stop" in Audacity and cut out the blank bit at the beginning of the recorded track in Audacity.

Ah thank you all for your help. However I was googling (I was doing this for like, DAYS) and I found to a way to convert DRM protected files so my ipod can play it anyways. I just copied the songs, put them in another folder and converted those.

Sounds like you are using Windows Media Player 11 or you are using Vista. 10 work fine but 11 will not let you burn the music to CD. The Guild Wars Special Editon can not be burned.

There is no need to burn any of this to get it on an Ipod, use Itunes. You can Import the file(s) by clicking the "file" button and chose add file to library. Then use Itunes to put it on your Ipod.

ATTENTION: Anyone that is suggesting a way to burn this or other protected files, to a disk may be advocating violating copyright laws. If you do violate forum guidelines, the post will be deleted and the thread locked. Please tread carefully as we do not condone illegal advice or activity here on Guild Wars Guru.

Thank you.

EDIT: for clarification

Wrong.

It is a .wma drm protected file so cannot be directly added to itunes. Also burning it to CD is not breaking copyright laws, DirectSong intended for it to be done. (although microsoft forcefully removed this feature from the software in the latest wmp updates, use an older one.)

You paid for a digital download but have the right to burn it to CD. Making multiple copies for other people is not allowed however.

I thought a guru technician would have done the research before posting such a thing in the forum secion he is here to help in.

To the OP, did you make sure you added your machine on a permanant license or did you choose the 8 hour temp? you get 4 of each and they are topped up every 6 months (or sooner if you contact direct song and explain).

No, it is not illegal. Burning legally bought & downloaded music to CD for own use is covered by Fair Use.

Even Apple, who otherwise push DRM as far and as hard as it is at all possible, and usually even further, don't oppose burning downloaded music to CD although they impose an arbitrary limit of 7 burnt CD's per download.

DirectSong, as is being discussed here, has the following policy:
"Q: Can I burn a CD of the music?
A: Yes, you can. Our current licensing system is set up to allow unlimited Soundtrack CD's to be burned per machine download. In this way, you can take your music with you. Paks and Mini-Paks can not be burned."
(can not link directly to this, but it's in the FAQ at http://www.directsong.com/ )

Hence: not only is it not illegal, it is explicitly allowed.

1st - It did work w/ an older version, as you stated. That was how I was able to do it. So, I did my "homework" just months ago.

2nd - I was not implying that this was illegal in any way. I just want to make sure this thread does not devolve into questionable areas. This is 1 of my functions, Thank you.

3rd - I edited that post.

Could you tell the rest of the class how you did it? Might be helpful to people who are trying to do the same thing. Thanks!

Unless, of course, it was an illegal contravention of DRM

(Yes, I know - we all hate DRM, but rules is rules).

I opened my EOTN soundtrack in windows media player I think.
Then I burned it on a CD, then ripped it to Itunes.
It's now on my PS3,ipod,ect ^_^

It was a while ago.

I don't think I had any problems with my prophecies soundtrack.
