Well, I NEVER lag and always stay at Green and 60-66FPS but what is causing the random disconnection? It aint my AV(already unblocked gw from the list) and it is not my internet connection(works fine). I spawned my monk in LA and right now when I try to enter it gets stuck at "Connecting to ArenaNet"

Or.. i lag out. But I got a very fast connection, DSL, and never done this before.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

P.S. It only happened today and this weekend.

Grab a different char that isn't in LA or Kamadan. Move them to a district that's usualy dead (Like Traditional Chinese). The go back to your monk. You might be able to load. Give it a shot.

Yes Hallow-weenie could be the answer. The servers are very busy and that can cause serious problems. I think that I read that they are doing maintance on the servers on Oct. 28th. Defrag and such types of things that Admins have to do from time to time to keep things running smoothly. Or maybe they are/will be up-dating/up-grading hardware. Who knows.

Have you been here and tried what this person suggests?

Now for the long/hard answer.

Lag is a NORMAL function of ALL networks. Period. Some are better, some are worse. This is often called poor ping times.

Ping times are measured in milli-seconds. And represents the amount of time it takes for a request to be sent to and return from a server. Distance has some to do with it, but usually it has to do with the amount of bandwidth and the amount of traffic on it.

Then you add in the fact that there may be many "hops" between you and the GW server. More hops, longer "total" ping times. Most of the time your path to the requested server is short, few hops. Other times because of many reasons, it can be many, many hops. Thus very long total ping times, very long lag times. When these times get long enough, your request times out and you can not connect.

If you are a techie, or just think you are, you can use a program called traceroute, or another program that uses it and a GUI. Traceroute will show you exactly the route your connection is taking over the internet. It will show you the number of hops and the ping time between them, or between you and that hop.

A "dot quad" number is the ACTUAL address of the server you are connected to. Machines understand such numbers. People on the other hand have trouble using/remembering them. So there is DNS. DNS takes the URL as we know it, "http://www.some-site.com", and translates it to the correct dot quad ( i.e.: 201.324.101.1 ) that hardware understands.

Most of the time you can find the the "dot quad" address of the server you are connecting to in the top left corner of your screen when you enter a new/different area of GW. But be quick, it's not there long. Put this number into you traceroute program, hit the "enter" key and be amazed and confused by the response that you get. Read the program document to find out just what it is you are looking at. Some of the programs that use traceroute can understand regular URLs. But the dot quad is better to use.

Remember to put the "."'s in where they belong. They MUST be there for the program to work!

Clear as mud huh? It really is even more complicated then this. But hey, I tried to keep it simple.

Or try this ...

Think of the whole thing like sending a letter, with the wrong address. If the address is in your town, it takes a short time for you to get it back. No or little lag. But if that letter needs to go halfway around the world. It may take weeks or months to get back. Really long lag. Or you may not get it back at all, connection timed out.

Sometimes the letter goes from one countries postal service directly to the others postal service. No/short lag time. Other times it may have to go thru EVERY country, and it's postal service, between here and there. Long lag times. And get lost, again connection timed out. Bummer.

So, control the things you can, as the above listed URL suggests. And live with the things you can not. Lag, long ping times suck. But that's the way it is. Sorry.

The game is completely unplayable for me.
I log into the game and then i cannot do anything, i can barely move, and trying to zone anywhere (outpost, or explorable area in the case i can actually move) always results in error7.
I tried playing with different characters and their different outposts, no luck.

I also tried the tips and possible solutions on this forum, no luck either.

Obviously, it all started with the Halloween event, the game was perfectly playable before that.
In this rate, i am going to miss the entire event

If you mouse-over the green dot on the GW screen it will show you not only your current ping rate, but give you the server address.

That's odd because one of my guildmates and personal friend from college only has dial-up at his house out in the country, he connects at 21,600bps at best, and he has no problems whatsoever. have crappy "rip-off" DSL here and I haven't lagged a bit or disconnected either.

What I would recommend to the OP is performing a packet-loss test. My DSL company sucks horrendously, and we had similar problems about six months ago. It turns out the the port we were on in the concentrator (big metal boxes you see on the side of the road in areas) had gone bad and while we were getting good pings and all, we had MAJOR packet-loss. While this is not too bad for web-browsing and downloads, it is HORRIBLE for gaming and can cause the symptoms described here.

You ca use the site linked below to diagnose DSL problems. If this site is far away from your location, scroll to the bottom of the page and choose another server near you. If you paste your results here I can explain them if you need me to. Usually things like congestion or packet-queuing can cause packet-loss or other gaming problems.

Lag does increase during events like this where more people are logging on at the same time. However, I have not had any lag problems so far, even in LA and Kamadan. Since 2 of my farming spots and of course the collectors are at those 2 cities, I'd expect it to be worse there. I use DSL myself, but haven't had any lag, and doen't expect any until the Mad King comes, if then.
