Gate of Madness bulletproof solution

Many say that this mission is the hardest one in Nightfall campaign and almost impossible to finish it solo with h/h. There is great guide on Wiki but they didn't help much about Shiro, toughest enemy that is super hard to defeat. I will describe only how to defeat Shiro so please use Wiki for the rest.
When you close all 5 portals and gate to the shrine is open do the following:
1. Set up green flag for all your h/h in front of the door so that their action range is just short of the door.
2. Use your own character and enter slowly to draw attention to Shiro.
3. Wait until he comes close and then run for the door.
4. Shiro is preprogrammed to run up to the door and then he returns automatically. Whole idea is to exploit this.
5. Attack Shiro outside the door and wait for your tank to come and fight him. In my case it is Koss.
6. Run away further from the door and start ranged attacks and spell.
7. Koss will soon die but healers should do the job and resurrect him. As soon as Shiro starts running back follow him and attack him then run again where your tank will engage him again.
8. Be sure that healers, spell casters, rangers never come close to Shiro or your tank because of Impossible Odds, deadly skill used by Shiro that can wipe out your entire party. If healers are OK then resurrection is no problem.
9. Be extra patient, it will take 15-20 minutes to defeat Shiro. The most important thing here is where you set your flag, not too close and not too far from the door.
After defeating Shiro, use same tactics to lure Lich. He is much easier to dispose. Be sure to have spell breaker skills. When Lich dies mission is finished. Bonus shrines are worthless and you risk too much. with this strategy you can defeat Shiro 100% every single time.
This is not a cheat but smart play. True cheat is Impossible Odds made by programmers to make your life hell.
This is exactly the same strategy as for final queen boss in legendary Unreal game.

15-20 for shiro alone? in normal mode? without shrines? this definately does not make this guide bullet proof. *pulls out gun*
i did shiro faster than that in hard mode with all of the shrines. and killing shiro first is a pretty dumb strategy. there is just so much wrong with this i think i might just cry.

Or just dive in there and pop Pain inverter, SS, SV & empathy on him and make sure you break his battle scars stance each time he applies it. Should only take a couple of minutes to kill him once the Lich is down and the shrines cleared.
The reason this mission is so difficult is because players are unprepared for impossible odds. Instead of observing what it does and taking appropriate counter measures most players seem to apply the
"Shiro hard, me bash spacebar faster now"
technique
If you know its coming and how to deal with it then it's no more difficult than any other Realm of Torment mission.

Don't get why people say this is so hard, I had to replay it a few times, but when I learned what to do it was easy. Shiro wasn't a problem at first, I just ingnored himand killed the lych, after that went back outside and flagged the heroes in the appropriate places, a necro with Spoil Victory and similar skills, he's dead in no time. Killed him in factions 3 times now with those skills, and got Masters on all of them.

IMO Actually to me killing Shiro first is the easiest then go for shrines then kill lich. Skill choice is key hench healers are ok for this mission leaving heros to set for damage.
1. Set up green flag for all your h/h in front of the door so that their action range is just short of the door. (If you set your melee character (sin or warrior work well) a hero that has wild blow/wild strike set them in the doorway then fan out your caster characters so the agro bubbles overlap the melee character a little Note if using a sin as tank you must micro manage some sort of defense skill and keep it up at all the time)
2. Use your own character and enter slowly to draw attention to Shiro. ( I do the same)
3. Wait until he comes close and then run for the door. (I am usually a caster so I run to the backline the warrior/sin take agro at this point)
4. Shiro is preprogrammed to run up to the door and then he returns automatically. Whole idea is to exploit this. (If you are close enough he stays focused on the warrior/sin. If he jumps it still is ok your characters are fanned out and not right next to each other)
5. Attack Shiro right before outside the door and wait for your tank to come and fight him. In my case it is Koss. ( Hex the heck out of him (Spiteful spirit/ empathy / spoils of victor / and pain inverter makes mince meat out of him time it right before he goes crazy with his Impossible Odds skill and he will kill himself) (3-7 minutes top if using the hex method)
If things go bad flag and run res reset flags and try try again (once shiro is gone it is a piece of cake)

This mission is not difficult in the slightest, period. Doing masters only makes it easier, kill the lich first and then shiro with anti-melee. Easy enough to kill shiro/lich in HM by a single necro, so you shouldn't have any problems in NM.
smilingscar
Anyways, Shiro is the easiest boss to tank ever so long as you don't attack him, just let him wail on you. Because then he doesn't do any life stealing and does rather mediocre damage. I tanked him with my mesmer with Physical Resistance and Restful Breeze while I flagged my heroes to take shrines. I did need a heal/protection every once in a while from my monk as they passed by to another shrine (could've brought it myself and been fine really). Just don't attack Shiro and he's harmless as a kitten.
caballo_oscuro
The easiest way to beat this misison is to kill the Lich, activate the shrines to get the blessings and then Shiro can be mopped up afterwards. It's not hard.

Meh, job with shiro is NOT TO TANK.
Set henchies in center and create a triable with hero's arround it. Shiro will be running 50-60% of the time since he keeps switching targets, while everybody is free to attack. Add reckless haste + price of failure and he cant kill anything.
Once he gets down on HP and starts using his most powerfull attacks, start using serpents (or something else) to [almost] chain Pain Inverters and let him kill himself for the rest of the way.
I forgot; they ONLY trigger on YOU. Sac yourself to death and you can control your h/h to capture all 5 altars with shiro/lich staying friendly the whole time for ez-mode in HM.

Well I have not tested out killing shiro myself on this mission (last time I did it was with guildies and we had problems then as well >_> and that was in NM) but if its anything like killing shiro on the last faction mission, then someone should take a stance removal skill.
Like on my warrior in the last mission in factions, I took wild blow, and did it on my second try (lost on the first try due too meditation of reaper at the worst time while there was a shiroken present)
Whenever he used impossible odds with battle scars UP, that is what always made me die >_< but once battle scars got taken off, all I needed in NM was to put Pain Inverter on him and make sure to use wild blow if he puts up battle scars just before impossible odds.........shiro killed himself from that.
Without meditation of reaper and banish, he should be much easier in Gate of Madness using SS/SV/Empathy/Pain Inverter providing you have a stance removal skill (even if you have to switch to /w (or whatever profession has other stance removal skills) ) to stop battle scars.
I haven't tested it yet but from what I saw of him in the last factions mission, it should work in one or two trys.

Wild Blow.
Wild Throw.
Wild Strike.
Include one of those three for Battle Scars, spread out when he uses Impossible Odds. Same strategy that works when fighting him in Cantha except significantly easier because no one is getting banished and making more enemies appear.

if you want to get master's, the easiest way to capture the shrine is to flag your heroes/henchmen to where the shrines actually are while you stand far away. that way the lich and shiro remain friendly and don't attack. once the shrines are captured this way, return the heroes/henchmen and proceed as you would usually do with shiro/lich.
it's pretty neat. the first time i did this with my guildmate, he was flabbergasted at how easy it was to capture with absolutely no effort.

IT doesn't take 20 minutes to do him. 5 minutes tops with necros on your team. I don't think any boss fight in GW is ever longer than 10 minutes...any MMO for that matter. Otherwise, good guide.

Very easy to defeat Shiro and the Lich. I completed Gate of Madness in under 20 minutes with h/h using paraway. Flagged heroes at the door, first brought Shiro to the door, moved back, and simply made his red bar go down. Had no problem. And don't forget to use Wild Throw/Blow/Strike when he uses Riposting Shadows and Battle Scars.
Ranger Icarus
I found the mission to be annoying, but I think it is easier to kill Lich first. Although Shiro is dangerous at certain points (I.E. when he uses impossible odds and battle scars). I think if you leave him alone and have the tank handle him it is much easier, as the Lich hits surprisingly high.
crazybanshee
Err, I've hero henched it 7 times so far, playing every class but mes, ranger, and sin. (they're next) Same strategy every time. Pull lich to door, kill. Easy. Run in, cap all the shrines, easy. Then spread out your heroes and hench and kill shiro. I always forget pain inverter if I even have it on the toon. Half the time I go in with crummy running builds and stuff, and am too lazy to rezone and fix them.Plus I forget a stance ender, which makes it take longer and means you need to stay on top of rezzing your stupid bunchy henchmen monks. But so far, knock on wood, I have not wiped at this mission no matter how stupid my builds are. I still think gate of pain requires slightly more attention paid than this one.

Bulletproof solution means that you can kill Shiro every time 100% with any combination of h/h. Wiki and most of you suggest using necro skills which my party simply doesn't have. My character is not necro, there are no necro henchmen and there is only one necro hero which I didn't take. I already mentioned having Margrid.
Saying that this mission is easy is ridiculous because so many people quit campaign because of it and even Wiki says it is one of the hardest. This is not an easy replay mission. It takes a long way to get to Shiro.
I played this mission only once and won easily but I'll never say this is easy mission just because of that. Anyway, why people who have no problem with this mission even bothered to read my solution? This thread is meant for people having problem not for those "it was easy" people. What most frustrates me with them is that they never gave any meaningful strategy or solution, they just say it is easy and that's it.
