Mad King

Please make it to where you can see what event NPCs such as Mad King
is saying even with local turned off.
I keep local turned off for a reason but to play the mad king games I have to turn it on then watch local get flooded with people telling lame Chuck Norris jokes or calling people noobs or especially peopel spamming "WHEN DO WE GET THE MASK" over and over.
Sometimes it gets so bad that I miss what king says and miss one of the commands.
And yes I know some people dont want to listen to King when you go into town so an optional choice would be nice.

Well, his speech pops up on the screen and lingers for some time, so you still have the opportunity to shut off local and not miss it. If you want to play his games and you're paying him even half your attention, you can still do it.

I agree completely. I would like to see the Mad Kings chat in an admin channel like Gaile's chat used to come up in.
Rhamia Darigaz
it's not gonna happen, so try reading the speech boxes that pop up when he talks.
citizensmith1001
I dont get this thread, you can already see what he says when he talks with both local chat and emotes turned off , a huge box appears at the top of the screen that shows what he is saying ?_?
MagmaRed
I think they should just add a pop up box in the middle of the screen that shows what hs is saying. In fact, they could even help people out by making all the emotes you need to do be in BOLD letters.
Oh, wait..... they already did that.....

Free Runner
Or they could do what they did with other finale NPCs (i think its the Wintersday ones) and make them talk in team chat rather than local.
here to troll
free runner, they also did that at gaile going away party, so i think that is the norm now

Oh and fyi I'm in kamadan right now and he does NOT have a textbox above him so I have to have local turned on. And as far as the bolded part perhaps you did not read all of it like usual. people SPAM alot and shoves the text off the screen. How would this hurt anyone??? It wouldnt.

It might be nice to give him a special color, orange perhaps. But it is rather fun having other Mad Kings goofing off and giving the wrong instructions during Mad King Says.
Shayne Hawke
I voted "Yes", because you already can. Don't be slow.

this wouldnt effect anyone that likes it the way it is right now but it would make it better for those who think those goofs you speak off are just annoying and would rather not have to see what they say.

Nothing more is needed. ANet did this from the start. I've always had local and emotes off during Halloween, yet somehow I never had trouble seeing the giant pop-up window in the middle of the screen. I mean, the text in the pop-up is: larger, easier to read, it doesn't share any space with any other server messages, i.e., favor, Halls, screen shots, trades, etc., and it's right in the middle of the screen. Unless you've gone into options to disable dialogue widows, which I'm not sure will effect the Mad King, there should not be a problem seeing what he says. I voted "yes," because ANet did this already.

i actually do have dialogue windows disabled and i can still see the HUGE GIANT BOX in the middle of the screen just fine.
Shadowhaze
I just watch the dialog boxes that pop up.

Or they could just put it in team chat or something like that and you can stop being a ...I wont finish that.

Most people are too focused on their own characters or the chat box that they completely miss the announcement/mission dialog boxes that pop up in the middle/upper part of the screen. That's not Anet's problem though...pick your head up and look at the other 50% of your screen and you'll do just fine in events like these.
Hailey Anne
To tell you the truth I forgot about those dialogue boxes ive had them turned off for a couple year.
But still it wouldnt be that hard to do this anyway. They do it with other events. in big blue writing even with local turned off during the Dragon Festival they announce that the emperor is coming. Wouldnt be that difficult to do that.

Shinka
too many spams from local channel during festive event
Operative 14
It would be nice if he got his own private admin text, or even just team chat like they have for all the other festivals. This strikes me as a holdover from Halloween being the first ever holiday event.

/signed for NPC to have special color text
Voted yes because I want NPC to have their special text so they will be easy to look for them, not striking yellow/green text please. But don't know how will one know what theyve type if they have local turn off?
While we are on the topic of the Mad King, might I suggest giving The Festival NPC a larger/wider perimeter, bubble in relation to how close a player can get to it, so that idiots will not be able to hog them in the up coming Wintersday Event.

Indeed. It's not needed for local chat when this is already there clear as day. I never even look at local chat on the rare occassion i'm there for an event. It's just so much easier to look at the text box.
Vilaptca
Actually, isn't it typically in team chat?
I was kind of surprised when I turned off local and couldn't see what the King was saying. I think they messed up this year, because I swear most events are usually in team chat.

Allied NPCs usually appear in party chat with light blue or dark blue color names.
Neutral NPCs and enemies may appear in with the local chat pale gold names.
Although, It's not a very constant rule, sometimes the opposite happens.
There is already a dialog panel that appears when he talks.
Of course, if you hide the dialog panel, you won't see it.
I also moved the dialog panels to the middle of the screen, so I can hide the Local chat without problems.

Mad King Thorn's dialogue was in Mission Goals. If you have that turned off for whatever reason, you can only see what he says in local.
All of these people saying "OMG it's in a huge box how could you miss it" are completely missing the idea of options. You know you can turn off different options, right? How would you ever know that the Mad King is speaking in Mission Goals if you have that option turned off? For that matter, why is Mad King Thorn's text in Mission Goals, anyway? It's not a mission, it's just dialogue.
Several Canthan events have the text in Team Chat, which works just fine.

The popup dialog boxes were always enough for me, but I'd like this change simply because it feels just wrong when such a special and important NPC's text gets mixed with all the local spam with absolutely no distinction.

You can already see what he says in the text boxes above his head.

The text box above his head is more of a pain to read than in local. As for the dialogue box read above quote.
