I wonder what is the lore behind the desolation, how did it become desolated and who were the people that lived there (city of Morah, city of Sahlahja)?
If its the "most hostile region in tyria" how did they survive there?
I couldnt find any information about it on the wiki or in the gameplay manual :S
I would like to know your opinion

The region was once a part of the Crystal Sea (or at the coast of it) and is currently a part of the Crystal Desert. It, like the Crystal Desert, was created by the battle between Abaddon and the other five gods. The sulfur was created when the gods struck Abaddon down at the Mouth of Torment.

The people survived there prior to the Exodus, and after on areas where the Sulfur is not at. It is because of the sulfur that it is such a deadly place. The places were created to overlook the Mouth of Torment, and the encreeping Torment that came from there (until recently, it was very very slow and only seemed to be at the Mouth of Torment until Varesh stepped in).

Sahlahja was one of the first places attacked by Joko, and pretty much everyone who was alive in the Desolation after the Exodus was killed off by Joko and turned into his army.

There is more, but this is a basic part of it.

Surprised it's not on the Desolation page of the official wiki, well not too surprised. You have to look around for information with lore.

Most if not all of the information is given in quests throughout the desolation. The Manuals only give the base of the backstory so you ether have to search for it or look around the lore forums. As for Wiki.......yeah stick to the lore forums and In-Game quests.

As Free Runner said, most of the information was from quests. You can also find information reguarding these things in the Town Outpost descriptions (when you click on the town from the map, read what it says) and random NPC dialogue.

Manuals=beginner's guide to knowing lore

Wiki=whatever people feel like putting up, never 100% trustworthy unless you look at the history of the page and know the last person to edit is trustworthy.

Edit: Oh, and don't forget to look at the gw.dat descriptions of explorable areas and landmarks. Threads of those can be found on GWO.
