Hey guys, recently I tried to install guild wars on my ubuntu laptop using this tutorial ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=829612

This was the first fail it had, making the game completely in-playable

I Fixed that by changing the in-game graphics the the lowest possible but still received some graphic errors.

Im running ubuntu 8.10

Any Ideas from ubuntu users? I have heard it works perfectly fine for some people

The guide in the ubuntu forums was shown to be incomplete or inaccurate. Remove all versions of wine you have installed from ubuntu before you do anything else.

Make sure you have the latest graphics drivers for your video card for linux. Download the latest version of wine from http://www.winehq.org/

Run wine and use it to install gw using the client you can download from the gw website.

If this doesn't work, you might consider splashing out for Crossover Games, http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/ which is not free software but has been customised by codeweavers to better run games on linux. You can download a trial to see if it works for you.

GLSL , You need to disable it when running Guild Wars in Wine/Cedega
What you get is tearing textures, common problem if GLSL is enabled

Not that I can fix ur problem,

but I run GW fine at home on Slackware 12.1 with fluxbox and Cedega 6.0.3.

I haven't been into winblows since the change to slack.

Nothing fancy, regular install at my end. Only issue is zoning takes a bit longer.
Must buy a new machine ;-)

If been running Guild Wars on wine 1.1.7 and 1.1.8 and Guild Wars runs perfect no changes on my part. I have an Nvidia card and run the latest drivers from the nvidia web site.
