Hi all, I had a decent monk Char, named Ho Li Crap, it was my 2nd char, and the name reads funny in the narratives. I didn't realize that someone would take offense to this. My account is suspended (72 hours),and I am wondering if the character will be wiped out or will I be allowed to rename?
Is there an appeal process, or something I can do about saving the char?
Thanks, and yes I know it was a stupid name, but was dinking around while making char and didn't realize I couldn't change names. DOH!

Speaking as one of the less tolerant people around here when it comes to what constitutes an offensive name, I would NOT have reported that name.

Actually the problem may have been Anet's chat filter. There are 3 levels to the filter, none, normal and high. The default is normal which filters most swear words like the F bomb. Some folks prefer no filter which of course sensors nothing, but then there is the "high" setting. It's perfect for parents that let small kids play along with them and it blocks almost every word that could be considered offensive.
On the high setting "crap", "sucks" and other minor crude terms are filtered. It's possible that someone saw your character name as Ho Li ---- and assumed the ---- was worst than it really was.
Kinda makes you wonder why the word is allowed in a character name in the first place though if it's deemed bannable. If you really want to keep the name you can try an appeal. It probably won't work, but it's worth a shot.

The whole term Crap comes from the last name Thomas Crapper who founded Crapper & Co., producer of a modern style flush toilet at the turn of the century (19-20, not 20-21)...Another fella nammed John is also responsible for a euphamism regarding ye olde toilet...but you might not be banned for Ho Li John...people are close-minded shits, and I apologize on behalf of reasonable people, who are also assholes, like me...who would never report you for the most minor of "potty" reference. It was probably the Ho that got you banned, not the meaning. If you changed it to hol lee crap you would probably be aright.

Do you really think it was the HO? hmmmm...funny, it never even crossed my mind that THAT could be the reason. I mean, Ho is a pretty popular REAL asian name...as in Don Ho (singer of the ever popular "Tiny Bubbles"). It is also what Santa and the Jolly Green Giant say...Ho, ho, ho! I still hear it on rated G TV...so why is it bad in the game...? I don't get people.

Back on topic of the post, I wouldn't have reported the name myself but I'm not surprised that someone did. Whilst the word may not be offensive to many it is still a recognised swear word and does offend some.

Hi All,I Iaughed my ass off reading a couple of the names, and yes I wrote it for fun cause my son loves the potty humour when it flashes up in the narrative.
I had to redo all armour, and weps don't work yet(ie.recharges etc.). Have to get new ones.
Well I am now The Rush Geek, watch me get banned for professing my worship of the best band ever...but that's a whole other thread.
