Cable And Dsl?

What Now

Wasn't sure where to put this, tech forums had the sub-categories of hardware and software o.o

I was wondering from people who have Cable providing their internet what I should expect. Currently switching from DSL 6.0 to Cable 6.0, suppose to be the same speed but I've heard some people talking about how cable can be unpredictable at times and flat out unreliable depending on the circumstances. While some say theirs works even faster.

Was a bit worried since I only PvP and as a monk none the less. Anyone mind putting my mind at ease or admitting it might be a bother.

Someone also said something about a usage cap or something they might cut me off for surpassing. That anything to worry about either?

Feel free to move this where it fits best if this isn't the right place to post it :x

it all depends on the quality of your connection.

for instance, for me, ever since switching to DSL from cable, i've been getting absolutely unpredictable ping. it's bad enough that i've more or less given up playing ranger. it all depends on your location and your ISP. you honestly won't know until you try it.

i switched from cable to dsl
not by choice, but because of bandwidth issues

even tho advertised speeds were the same
cable was much faster for me

dsl's speed depends on the quality of the line, and the distance from the servers
so even if u get an advertised 6mbsp
that may not necessarily the speed u will be seeing

i usually go to dslreports.com to do speed testing
(if someone knows a better site, lemmie kno)

As Moriz said, it varies from ISP to ISP. You'd have to say what the particular ISP's are, and then maybe someone with experience with those particular ISPs could answer.

250GB/month cap. Unless you torrent 24/7 you'll be fine.

I use to work for a major DSL provider. Its definately all about distance with DSL but with FIOS for Verizon coming out and the technology of ADSL 2, its really not that big a question anymore. So long as you have a good line you're fine. Usually if the signal is bad and a tech comes out and your house is wired poorly or has a ton of copper, they'll unload it all and rewire things to make it that much better. For cable, you're kinda limited to the number of people i beileve on your block as far as bandwidth. If someone is sucking it up, ya'll are screwed. With DSL on the other hand, it's not so bad. Besides, with something like Guild Wars, there isn't alot of heavy uploading and downloading. Most of what you see and is done is on your PC with the software, the rest is alot of commands and addresses and whatnot going back and forth with the server in regards to what's happening. Oh and as a former comcast subscriber... FTL! Time Warner is just as bad. Stay with DSL.
