EotN is Causing Problems with New Players
Konig Des Todes
Agreed. That is why, I personally think that the req for getting to EN should be completion of whatever Campaigns you have (so if you have all three, you need to beat all three with your character first, if you just have prophecies, then you just need to beat prophecies). Add to that getting the 30 attributes, and Ascension, and I'm happy.
I know I'm going to get flamed with that.
Not really idiots, just inexperienced and "newbs" (not "noobs" - those are idiots, there is a difference). You were once in that category, I was once there, everyone was. Some people are faster learners, and some people just cannot learn. That last group go from "newbs" to "noobs."
I do that too, except Prophecies -> Factions -> Nightfall -> Eye of the North. I do it in lore/release chronological order

Well, well now, it's not that they are idiots. How do they know that they have 200 attribute points instead of 170 attribute points unless someone tells them otherwise? A lot of noob players would assume the 170 is max, I think. I didn't get the 30 more points on my first character until a full 2 months after he turned 20 (I was pretty noob still).
To add to this, it should be exactly like the EoTN quest notifications. And maybe it should automatically add the quests or something too. This would be especially helpful to Prophecies/Factions, as the quests are out of the way enough for people to find it.
/invisible sarcasm tags, I hope?

Cantha, you just have to do two missions in order to be able to get the quests. Nightfall, you can get the first right away - but not everyone would know to go to the Sunspear Great Hall. Both Canthan and Elonian Attribute quests are equally out of the way, and equally too easy to get.

Add a noob alert instead!
Some way to clearly distinguish a real level 20 char from a 170 or 185 attr noob. And a clear notification for that clueless player to show him his level 20 character is not fully developed and he needs to get more attribute points.
For example it could show like "20-" wherever it's "20" for everyone else, like in "W/Mo20-". Or show that in a different color. And show every level 20 without full APs a text in Red in the attributes and skills window, right next to the Attributes Remaining info, saying how many attribute points can this character still unlock. Hovering mouse over that should show a more detailed explanation tooltip.

Also, make it a hex like "Dishonourable". So we can recognize them and not pug with them.

Remove attribute point quests, give all new players a +30 point starting boost.
Couldn't hurt now... |
you'll be surprise! people might start to complain that they don't get this the way new players get them and start a whole thread of arguments that Arena Net does not "rewards its loyal veteran players" .... like the new update....

I guess there are a lot of players coming through prophesies who just do not know they are missing points or realise there is something called ascending as the in game reminders are from npcs in the crystal desert and Droks.
The problem is once at LA the call to link the games together is too strong, they don't get to the augury rock in the crystal desert meet the npc so never find out what they are missing.
So yes a reminder to ascend and to do the attribute quests is a good idea.
It should be pretty simple to add to the game I would imagine.

Perhaps if heroes were made available without going into EotN, people with the expansion would stay in the main story line.
Duh, how about adding attribute quests to Eye of the North?
The Little Viking
EOTN was intended for characters that were level 20. Personally I think it should have stayed that way. No level 20, no entering EOTN. This being able to get in at level 10, but with attributes spread out to 9 in all areas is not right in my book. And for those that say "well dont go till your level 20 then", I dont intend to if i ever make another character, which i dont see happening anytime in the near future.

Generally, I don't like petty debates like this - let players go where they want and do what they want (within reason). Getting out of your depth is an important learning experience, IMHO.
That said, I would not be opposed to some symbol after the name of a fully evolved character (Lvl 20, All attributes and ascended). Maybe a star?

This way it would be fair for everyone. Or, yeah, just remove all the quests altogether.

Personally I think you should need to have beaten one of the core campaigns prior to traveling to EoTN.

If players are rushing through and missing things it is their own faults. It isn't like they cant go back and pick them up.
I kind of think this is just an angle from the OP to keep the other kids out of the sand box.
If they want to come to EotN and level up so what, If they don't know about something they missed their own faults they should have read up or taken their time finishing all available quest on starter island.
I haven't started a Proph char in a while because it takes forever to max them out, you are almost 75% through the game before you do, isn't because it is imposable it is just because it is easier to max out the other chapters toons.

There's a BIG difference between ANet making a game easier for newer players and not giving veteran players the same rewards without sound reasoning. You should take the time to actually read an argument and understand the points before making commentary mocking people on here.

I have no idea why they modified the system to show only how many points one has to spend and removed the number that had shown how many points one actually has altogether.
Just bring back the whole X/200 system.
But do not - and I shall repeat myself - do NOT limit the entry into GWEN even more.

How about adding a quest chain like the one used for the storyline of EoTN? It would be created as soon as the character selects his/her secondary profession. The quest would be updated as the player progresses the storyline.
Example:
Primary Quest (or Secondary)
Path of the <insert profession here>
(Tyria)
- Help Ascalon in their conflict against the Charr.
- Help the Ascalonians through the Shiverpeaks.
- Join the Krytans against their fight with the undead.
- Help the Shining Blade escape the White Mantle.
- Complete the quest "The Forgotten Ones" given by Annelle Fipps in Destiny's Gorge.
- Complete the quest "Forgotten Wisdom" given by "Sariss Yassith" .
- Complete the quest "The Hero's Challenge" in Droknar's Forge.
Reward:
???
Just a thought, and it may be useless at this point in the game's lifetime.
PS: Being bored in college is not cool...
