-I searched whether heroes are usable in UW or HM but it seems like all I find are "solo UW/HM" threads so I'm assuming heroes aren't usable in UW/HM. Am I correct on this? And also, since many people rather solo, is there supposed to be a decreased amount of drop rate or something negative when adding heroes to the party?
As far as I know, heroes can go to UW/FoW, but henchmen can't. No restrictions apply for general HM.
Whatever drop rate thing you might be suggesting there is probably a myth, or related to loot scaling.

-I heard assassin beats dervish in pve and pvp with their scythes even though assassin's primary weapon isn't a scythe. On another thread, I saw that this is the only case with pve but when I asked someone online, they said assassin scythe > dervish for both pvp and pve. Is this actually true?
Assassins have some good scythe builds. Whether they are better than scythe Dervs in PvP is probably a matter of the build, arena, and opinion. Can't say for sure in PvE, but I'd wager a perma-SF Sin is more useful than a scythe Sin.

Thank you for the fast reply. Yes I did mean by using henchmans or heroes for farming. I refer soloing as not playing with real people but still playing with heroes/henchmans. Sorry if I confused you.
One last question about rangers though. I seen threads where rangers are best using other weapons, like scythe or hammer for example. I wish to play a bow ranger but people says that'll limit things on what I could do. For example, if I want to join a GvG guild or a PvE farming party/guild as a bow using ranger, I would have difficult time finding a good guild for GvG and a hard time finding a pve party. Yesterday on this forum, I found a thread where rangers can do well now with their bows but on another forum at pvp (not sure about pve since it wasn't mentioned but I think it applies there as well?), they said rangers aren't a good choice. Is this still the case?
I would like to be able to farm UW/HM as a bow using rangers with only heroes/henchmans and do well in GvG as well. I think I'm asking too much though.

Rangers are a utility profession, spreding degen, interupting skills, conditioning enemies, and they have reasnoble survival ability.
Rangers best weapons are in most cases bows, in PvP poison and interupts are great, and in GvG they have strong ganking ability. In PvE splinter/barrage is pretty good and i cant think of any place apart from HA or HB where you would usually run a non-bow ranger.
And in terms of PvP/GvG its easier to make a PvP only character, that way you can customise your equipment depending on your build and already comes with max weapons and armour.
If you want to UW or FoW you will struggle to get anything decent done with heros, those areas are not worth farming unless you run a speed clear gimmik build.
In terms of hard mode running BHA for shutdown or Splinter/Barrage for AoE damage for well, for heros the best setup tends to be the standard 3 necro stuff, although changes are required in certain areas.

I see, thank you for the detailed information. I get that Ranger aren't a good choice for UW/FoW now. I seen Dervish runner build so it's okay to assume they are decent choice for UW/FoW?
It's complicating to ask question on these (UW/FoW, I just learned about FoW now in this thread) since I'm still new to the game but I'll just ask away anyway.
UW and FoW farming are ideal because they drop a certain items that no where else drops correct? I think it was ecto or maybe I'm getting mixed up. If I'm not able to farm these places, what would I be missing out? Would ranger get another place they could farm to compensate for this loss for UW/FoW?
I would like to learn about these things before I find out that I'm not able to do a certain thing with a certain class after months of playings.

If you're new to the game, then why the heck do you insist on farming? Why not play the game as its supposed to be played and get money that way.
Rangers are a great class to play, they've got a good skill set, are very versatile and look darn good. Oh, and soloing in guild wars isn't anywhere near grinding in other MMO's, so if you want that, i think you might just have to try something else.
Sorry if my post seemed naggy, but it's the truth.

It's posts like these that make me /facepalm. There's simply so many things WRONG with it, I don't know where to start. Correcting all that you've said would simply take too much time to bother, though I will say one thing, "for heroes the best setup tends to be the standard 3 necro stuff" Yeah, no. That's a matter of opinion, and my personal one is 3 necro anything is shit. discordway, sabway, it's all crap. people need to take the time to actually look at the build they're using, and then choose heroes that synergize well with their build, or vice versa. Though people would argue that soul reaping synergizes between them, but that's just stupid. All and all, guild wars is not a difficult game. You can take nearly any team build into any area and be successful, so have fun with it.

"for heroes the best setup tends to be the standard 3 necro stuff"
wrong! i use 2 necro and a rit
anyways i have a ranger and she has bout 10 bows of all different things depending on what she's doing at the time. rangers are imo one of the best condition spammers there are as they can daze, cripple, blind, poison, etc. Broad head arrow on a hard mode monk will save the day anytime. also as some1 mentioned above, splinter barragers have been the 'in' build for ages and still do lots of dmg when they need to. so tbh rangers like most professions in gw, are only as good as the person using them. if ur gd at knowing what a ranger can/can't do and make a build accordingly, u can be more effective than some1 with a crappy build but gd profession.
so tbh its not about the profession imho, its the player and their experience and abilities. for example, i have 1 of each profession yet i hardly play as my monk because tbh i suck..... i suck big. does that mean monks are crap? depends on ur view. for me they're crap cos i hate healing and like dishing out the dmg, but for a person whos gd with that profession, they can out heal almost anythin with godlike powers. assassins have been moaned at sometimes due to their weak armor compared to other close combat professions and some swear they're aweful. however, i love my assassin and can take down HM creatuers in 2 secs, faster than even my ele main character sometimes.
so remember, if ur new to guild wars, try playing at least 5 if not all professions and see which u like the most. at the end of the day its what u feel comfortable with and enjoy the most, this is a game afterall. like already mentioned, dont worry about farming until u have found a proffesion u like playing as there's plenty of farming areas for ANY profession.
Stick with what u know and love, and go from there

Thank you for the reply. For me, playing a melee class is a torture (tried it) and I'm not into caster type. I love playing a ranger though. For the ranger soloing UW, I found updated threads on it and it seems like it's possible to do it so I think this solves all my problems.
