Most people I know have more than 1 set of Tormentors simply for the 70AL over 60AL+Mod stat, and of course it's for looks, thats the whole point of armours, esp when it comes to 15K ones 
Although for MM Armour I wouldnt wear the MM boots, get a proper pair designed for the job

Ive seen others with multiple sets of armor.I don't see whats so weird about it?I enjoy collecting the armor like someone else collects Ectos or Greens I suppose.But generally I use each armor set per situation.
Canthan 15k is my Blood and Curse Armor used for henching or pug's.
Luxon MM Armor is for , well Minion Master.(which I'm horrible at)
Droknars Forge is my 55 Armor and my most loved and used.
Kurzick Tormentors is generally for Blood and Death blowin' up corpses n'stuff.
Shing Zea is my Soul Reap and whatever , not used to much..yet.
I like the Tormentors look,all sets are runed and dyed Silver...yea thats my only set of 15k for my necro.Can't have my Warrior or Monk running around naked so I had to armor them up to.I do have Bloodstained Boots by the way but I use them on another set...did I mention these arent all my sets?I have other armors with different stats,this is mainly my Tormentors collection.Also I have found that unless you come across a smiter youre fine,if you do,swap to a different set,I always bring 2 sets.

Left: Luggage Caddy - Mule, leftover Elonian PVP necro from the preview weekend. I occassionally send her to the Alliance Battle lobby areas and /afk dance for awhile. She sometimes gets a crowd around her, staring and going "ZOMG Elonian!" I'm enjoying the novelty while it lasts.
Right: Foulrot the Angry - PVE Necro. I can't wait to get him out of that armor and into an Elonian Sunspear chicken suit.

I've got multiple sets of armors with the same stats too because those stats are the ones that I like the most. And this goes for all my characters that have multiple sets of armors. So it's not pointless as LiamR said a few posts above, it's our gold and our characters so we can choose what we want to do with it.

Carinae has FoW, 15k Necrotic, 15k Scars, 1.5k Luxon MM, Drok Scars, and Tyrian (starter armor) each with different bonuses+runes for different applications. Plus one of each attribute headgear with a sup rune of the same type. I don't see what's wrong with multiple sets.
This also doesn't count any of my holiday headgear or party dresses.

15k luxon looks great though it'd suck in purple, if I got 15k luxon I would always see clones with my same armor set running around, I rarely see anyone with this armor
Note: My first two rangers are pvp, my thumper and tested anti caster
He only has one set of armor, use scars for different sets all three are dyed black
Black dye on 15k necrotic would look bad on this guy I prefer my purple
