Wait until Black Friday and then loggin to Newegg.... that's where I'm going to be at 8:59 eastern, with a cold Mountain Dew and some yummy leftovers from Turkey Day at hand. You should be able to top those deals. You can build a very nice gaming rig for $800 (assuming you have a mouse/keyboard/monitor etc already). Good Luck Shopping!

You say your old computer got messed up. What OS did it have? If it was WinXP, you could save your self some money by using the old XP instead of buying Vista (that is, of course, if the old computer is "junk" and not in use.)

To add to this, depending on exactly what messed up you should be able to reuse things like your old hard drive and disk drive. You also definitely don't need a new case ($70 for a case lol). Adding all those together would save you about $160, either going straight to your pocket or to be spent on better stuff for the rest of your system.

I built a similar system a few months ago and I am very happy with it. Use your old Win XP OS. No need to buy Vista.
One thing I did was install a second Win XP OS on a separate partition. It's a dual boot system that boots into a work computer or a gaming computer. Because I am only using the second system as a gaming system, only, I have no need to have security software running, or basically any software running, in the background that eats up precious resources.
