GW2 items
Masseur
Maybe Coffee Cups and Mouse Pads and Jackets, etc..., real life stuff to help, but nothing in game other than the normal instore stuff.

What would have happened?
"So we released Nightfall with 8th rank in Sunspear, only $2.95 to complete it and get an exclusive mission for it!"
"3 different character faces. Buy our additional face pack of 10 different faces and colors, only $3.95!"
"Need some weaponry? Buy our discount weapon skins pack!"
Look at the "free" MMO market which is littered with this disgrace. For those companies leeching petty pennies of children's wallets is more important than designing good games. I have faith ANET is not on that path.

I would buy the game and any following expansions they published,- just like I did for GWI.
Anything else: no thanks! |
^^ that and stop trying to make the game into "a sneaky free to play, but read small print, must buy 1,000 other items to be able to do anything at all" online game.
Please keep your business model as it is Arena Net. thank you very much!
PS: is this the Original Guild Wars Riverside or Guild Wars 2 Riverside.

The problem is once they would start offering such a plan - the game can not be marketed the same way and it becomes one of the many "items for pay" games. It's in a quite special place now and that's it's huge advantage.
So I seriously doubt they would go near it. I mean - look at the BMP even. They offered new playable content rather then just weapons.
If they would offer it - I wouldn't buy it though. I didn't even get the BMP. That has more to do with the fact that I don't buy things that don't come on some sort of a tangible media (at least not gaming or music related) then anything else though.

I would only buy stuff that would expand the PvE-world. No weapons/mini's or other useless junk.

I would not buy anything in an online store unless it was more character slots or more storage space. Those things are not exactly needed in game, but they're something you should have to pay extra for as it takes up more server space.

Weapon and mission packs are fine (we already have them).
Character changes - I wouldn't use with a cost attachment, but wouldn't be offended by, either. Unless the game launches with 3 face types, but 20 more if you pay extra - that's the sort of thing that would bother me.
Emotes - I'd actually like to see any future equivalent to the Divine Aura made available to anyone who wants it, with no stupid limited deals. I'm sure Gaile once talked of making *future* CE's available through the store, so I expect that will probably happen.
More storage tabs - YES! I'd prefer that to a character slot.
The key thing for me is that none of this be "necessary" to play the game and no glut of extra buyable stuff appearing, immediatly after release. IIRC, one of the reasons I never bought Oblivion was that it looked suspiciously like some stuff had been held back for subsequent micro-transactions. I don't want to be sold 80% of a game.
So long as they give it at least 6 months between releases and provide genuinely new, not sawn-off content, then I'll be fine with buying the odd extra.

I wont play GW2 if items can be bought for real life money.....sorta counterintuitive with ebayers......

You need to seriosly rethink your post if you think anet will not be able to support the game with just initial purchase only. This game does not NEED a monthly fee. In all honestly anets devs are some of the best out there, to be able to release a game without any serious bugs or client instabilities is outstanding. They dont need to pay big development costs to fix an already launched game for a huge team of devs, they have thier own servers, so they dont need to buy bandwidth from someone else (hopefully they get new machines tho, lag is serveside imo), and many other cost saving things. (that means they have no server costs except for maintenance and power)
I'd like to point out, first and foremost, the INSTANCING that we all love and hate is what made guild wars feasable in the first place to be free to play. With impovements on thier end, they can make gw2 much more similar to age of conan, persistant zones that have instances is what we can expect to see, except without AoCs fail dev team, and fail design ideas.
Also, dont forget GW2 will be following an expansion model instead of the chapter model GW used, its not like they will release the game and then sell nothing more. They will release the game and have regular expansions. Thus, more sales
The only concern that should be present for GW2 at this point is the pvp. Guild wars has, undeniable, the BEST mmo style pvp out there. I am sorry, but in battles that go
50vs50 or so, its just one big clusterRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO, its not a battle. There is no strategy. But in 8man or fewer arenas, you get strategy, you get skilled play, and you make it possible to balance the game towards one end or another. Guild wars also has the right idea about how to deal with the melee vs caster issue in things like damage, every other game is complete fail, and its tanks and nukers with no other options.
I expect gw2 to have giant initial sales just because of the diversity it offers players if nothing else. We have a general idea of what to expect as well, if the game does poorly compared to those expectations, then sales after that will be low, if the game does well, sales will be higher. Thier buisness model with this game makes it much more reliable than a monthly fee, where if they do not cater to the lowest possible denominator, they lose money. With thier current model they are always in the positive regardless of if it meets everyones standard or not.

For a generic korean free RPG that probaly no one except 10 year olds will play? Yes.
For a strategic co-operative RPG that millions of people will play? Hell no.

Being a bit older (apparently) than many of the posters here, I recognize that the people at NCsoft/ANet, like most people, need an income so that they can pay their rent and feed their families (and pay for the servers and internet connection).
Therefore, I realize, that if I want NCsoft to supply me with a good gaming experience, someone (usually me, but in your case it may be your parents) has to pay for it. My only concern is whether or not I enjoy what I pay for, and if I feel satisfied with the price/performance ratio.
I would gladly pay a monthly fee if that would be required to keep GW2 from becoming the lame-ass kiddie-fest GW1 has become.
No, I wouldn't want GW to become a buy-everything-online game like those other free RPGs. But, I can't make any definitive statements about what I would or would not want to see in the on-line store, until I see what is available and how it affects the game as a whole.

Nope never. If I wanted that sort of thing, I would go mmosite.com and get one of the many many f2P MMOs that use this kind of crap.

I don't think its reasonable to think that the guys at NCSoft don't know what they are doing and should listen to what people on a game fansite forum have to say on how to sell their games.
Do you really think they would go forward with making the game without first having a sale model?
This will not happen for so many reasons...

However if they had armor that you could customize, I mean really customize with a paint program or even model manipulation, then I would easily purchase something like that. Depending on what level of customization was permitted I could see myself spending $5-$15 for such upgrades.

you wanna break the game, even on release?
Anyway im sure there will be caps on weapons or similar to how it works on gw1. I hope its merley cosmetic differences

Ok, so how many of the people that are against items in the online store are willing to plunk down hard cash every month to play the game?
Would you play GW2 if it had a monthly fee? |
Anyways, my answer will always be no. If they want my money that bad, have it where we can buy extra features and/or content such as storage, BMP missions, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Basically if you want content, you have to pay for it. Either with monthly fees, or constant expansions (or both) or on-line stores.
And before you start with "free" GW vs pay-to-play WoW (for example), you'd have to spend a bunch of time figuring out how much money you've spent for how much content. Adding up the 3 campaigns, plus EotN, plus extra slots, plus GotY bonus pack, I've spent a good amount of money on GW. I believe I've gotten much more than my money's worth out of it. Unfortunately, I only played WoW as a 10-day trial, so I have no real idea whether or not WoW has more content (as in places to go, things to do) than GW, but I suspect it probably does - but then again, it costs more too.

After reading through all of the posts I have to agree with most of what I have read.
Having anything in the Online store that would affect how people play the game would be very wrong. However I still believe they will require a secondary source of income, beyond initial sales and expansions, to maintain the high quality we expect from the GW franchise. Keep in mind that a release date of 6months for chapters in GW proved to be difficult to meet without reusing skins and maps rather than creating entirely new content.
We have Storage and Character slots so far being almost universally acceptable as item in the online store.
IF they were to offer a Quest package in the online store what would need to be in it and at what price would it be viable?

I think a particular republican candidate can say this better than I can.
I don't mind a small selection of normal / slightly new skins being on sale, like the million weapons, nor do I mind weapons from the BMP which aren't exactly "for sale" but anymore than this and GW would become a farce.

I am not sure that is if I am going to be playing GW2 as GW as taken a lot of my time away from RL for me.I still have thing in GW to do which I am taking my time with the only think I can think of is char slots.
I would say that only 50% of the GW players will be moving over to GW2.
