I think it's safe to say that many current and former GW PvPers are anxiously awaiting news on PvP in Guild Wars 2. So far we've heard that there will be Structured PvP, which is similar to today's Guild vs. Guild battles, and World PvP, which will introduce new mechanics. What else can you tell us about World PvP?
Izzy:
Well, I can't say much. We are keeping things pretty tight on the information front, but I can say that when making GW2, we will be keeping the same ideals that we had in GW1. We will make sure our game is competitive at the high end, but still easy to play for anyone. World PvP is meant for anyone to have fun playing, no matter the party size.
Massively:
It's been stated that the original Guild Wars will continue to be supported after GW2 launches. Will tournaments continue, and expand into a separate tournament system for GW2?
Izzy
We've created an automated tournament system that will allow us to run tournaments for as long as we can. I don't see any reason why we'd stop supporting them after GW2's launch.
:\ it is pretty tight! throw us some crumbs won't you!!!!

All I can say is that if they're going to do some sort of split functionality with skills, they should do that from the get-go, and if they're really worried about balance across different types of PvP, there should be separate skill functions for those as well.
Ele Mental
meh that doesn't bother me, it's they should take into account that skills like DA don't work and they shouldn't need to change it three times and still see that it is OP

i am actually looking forward to pvp and especially the world pvp aspect of the game. I hope i get into it nearer the start and actually come up with my own builds. I rarely pvp on gw1, im not saying its too late to get into it but im lookin forward to this fresh start.
Im glad there keeping information tight, as much as everyone wants to know information you dont want the game ruined when it comes to knowing everything. Theres gotta be some surprises lol. IF theye said some information and later decided to change it people would probably be more upset

I don't think there is much more gw1 pvp can take. Tombs is dead. GvG is dead (since you can get on the ladder without even winning a match now) and TA/RA is also dead. It needs a revamp, beating a few skills with the nerf stick doesn't improve overall gameplay or add anything to the game. If any dev reads this then take my comments into account, give us addicts something better to do than grind titles in a dead game. Also make unrated gvg more available, for example like the unrated hero battles where your opponent is random, so guilds don't actually have to find a decent alliance to test builds on. Maybe this way people will be more attracted to GvG and will play it more often instead of waiting 5/10 minutes for a match

a) World PvP (Which is done in PvE areas)
b) GvG like mode (Which is the only PvP mode)
At least, as far as all the information given so far says, there's only 2 modes, a SUPER UBER AB done in PvE where people with more time win, and a GvG like mode which everyone is maxed out (and you seamlessly can travel between the two, so its like PvE/PvP characters on crack.)
I Will Heal You Ally
I imagine World PvP something similar that I've seen in Runescape before, it's called castle battles or something like that where two god's supporters fight each other to win.

I just hope jumping will be a PvE/only ability. There's nothing I hate more in video games than attacking a cricket.

I'm only really looking forward to the world PvP aspect since it'll be something new.
Cale Roughstar
Well, that was informative.
Not.
Not.

So what else is new?
I hope the PvP options are not just limited to "world" and "gvg-like"; I like the small arenas too. Spreading players out over the large number of arenas we have now is probably not a good idea for a new game, but just 2 is pushing it I think.

nothing new or interesting qq why even bother to do an interview if your not going to say anything.

Is it just me, or did he tell us absolutely nothing at all we didn't already know? Or heck, overstate the work he's presently doing when it comes to making GW1 any bit interesting?
And I'll sign onto the petition of more modes than hardcore GvG and AB-on-crack. I've always found RA and HA more interesting than either of those modes.

For the posters who don't get it: these interviews aren't for us. It's basically free advertising on a popular website, a "hey we're still around, if you're not happy with your game why don't you give us a try?"

sorry 'too busy working on gw2' to give meaningful or insightful interviews
or properly balance gw1, or make any updates, or read and respond to the wiki etc

Good luck balancing competitive play for 8v8 or whatever while making world pvp not a complete joke.

They left out the part that said the minute GW3 gets announced, he'll just drop focus on GW2 like a hot potato and piss off its entire PVP player base by leaving them with a broken game that gets one lame, random update a month.
Why break tradition, right?

I seriously don't know if world PvP will be any fun at all:
'Spike that Toucher!'
'Which one? There are 27 of them!'
Any gimmicky build will run rampart.

this thread is loaded with new information, many questions that i have had for quite some time have been answered with the posting of this thread.
^that's what i would say if it was opposite day or sarcasm-about-threads-on-guild-wars-guru day.

I've got a funny feeling that Anet will try and make World Pvp and the other PvP mode both succeed... and both of them will wind up failing miserably.

Master Ketsu
I'm taking this as a sort of stealth confession that they have given up trying to make GW1 pvp balanced.
Krill
I think they just want to be sure nobody sane will want to still play GW1 PvP after 2 is launched =/

GW2 mistake number one: not firing Izzy and hiring an individual with at least a fraction of competence.
