Hi,

I am considering buying a Netbook. I know the advantages, as in portability, and the disadvantages, as in very limited features. We already have a gaming laptop, but I want to get something VERY portable to perform simple tasks.

Black friday is coming up, and CompUsa and TigerDirect are having an all day webcast with all proceeds to go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This seems like a win win situation to me.

They are going have pretty good deals, and I am debating about 3 different models.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 which they will sell for $149

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1570 Netbook which will sell for also $149

and finally HP 2133 Mini-Note PC which has more memory.... will sell for $279

I like all 3 of them, but I would really appreciate some input. Is the extra $100 bucks worth it? I can upgrade the memory on the other 2, and the Lenovo seems to be quite simple.

No Cd/dvd drives.... I know just for basic web surfing, email, and document work.

Thank you so much!!

r u lookin to buy a netbook because of wut it offers?
or u lookin to buy a netbook jus because its a cheaper price?

does netbook and high performance go well together?
u should not expect much from a netbook
and therefore should not spend much money on one

imo if ur gonna spend the extra $100 in a netbook
y not jus get a low-end fully-capable notebook for $200 more?

didnt take too much time runnin thru the specs
but i couldnt find much reason that the hp costs $100 more
other than being hp
(few minor differneces here and there, but nuthin noteworthy)

buyin because of brand is hardly a reason to spend more money

I want a netbook because I need something extremely portable for basic tasks.

I already have a laptop, a high end Acer for gaming. Weighs a ton and a half. so we use it when we go away for a few days and we want to be able to play GW.

Personally, I am more inclined for the Lenovo, so I am definitely not looking at HP being a better brand ( not even sure it is). The HP has more memory, but that's about it, I think.

I appreciate your reply

My 2 cents:

Acer is NOT a top brand in my opinion, but since I've never owned one myself, I'll leave it at that. I have owned both an HP and a Lenovo/IBM laptop and the HP died after just over one year, while the IBM is still chugging away after nearly 6 years. I would be willing to bet on Lenova long before any HP product.

For a netbook, when all you need is browsing/documents, you might look at a linux system.
They are often cheaper then microsoft based ones, and take less resources then xp and especially vista. Linux netbook might be the way to go.

I would go for the slightly bigger Lenovo , especially at that price. 1 gig ram would have been nice but i would imagine thats easy enough and cheap enough to upgrade

I have a Msi Wind which is fantastic for performance and build quality (though a tad flakey on the wifi on some versions) and theres a few discussions on their forums about the Lenovo being about the same quality/performance as Wind so from my own personal use of the Wind i would take those reviews to mean the Lenovo is a very nice machine indeed (and with reported better wifi stability).

In the only tests I've seen, the Acer came out the best, but I can't recall what models it was compared to.
The Acer specs page says it has 512meg "on-board" + 512meg of DDR2-533 in the SIMM slot. Max RAM is 1.5gig (using a 1gig SIMM - you'd have to replace the 512meg as there is only 1 slot)
The HP has a VIA processor running at 1.2 Gig - both the Lenovo and the Acer have an Intel Atom at 1.6gig.

The Lenovo and the Acer look very similar and have almost identical specs. I suspect that they may have the same motherboard. The Lenovo has a bigger screen and is therefore, slightly larger.

So, I'd go for the Lenovo or the Acer based mostly on the better processor.
