I like Vabbian and Ancient. No reason why, just personal preference.

I hate to say it, by my favorite is FoW armor. No annoying spikes or anything. Behind that 15k canthan and 15k kurzick.

With assassins you really can't go wrong with any elite armor you choose (or even non-elite armor for that matter).
My personal favorites are (in no particular order)
Ancient (one of the few armors I actually think a dread mask looks decent with)
Asuran (the silver bits are a nice change from the usual sin black)
Elite Kurzick (idk why it's just nice).

1: bomb vaettrs over holiday weekends - bought all the obby shards for the armor in 3 days even with prices rising.
2: The ectos are easy to get with a chaos plains farm and the extra cash from drops will get you the rest of the mats and money.

You're not alone in that, i like Monument armour for almost every class... My sin has one, dyed red (some parts of the armor come in that colour, and cannot be changed) and it looks very nice.
