I'm trying to get myself a few good farming sets for my mesmer. Generally the builds ask a weapon with +5 energy and 20% of Enchanting mods. I know the Totem axe is a good choice, but are there any other skins/mods that would look nicer? I'd just want some suggestions from what you're using or a list of items that have a very nice skin (and fits a mesmer).

any inscriptable weapon can be a caster weapon. just add +5 energy insc. and 20% enchanting suffix mod and your set. prefix doesnt really matter, as long as its not vamp/zealous as to drain your hp/energy
I personally am taking my insc. fellblade I got as a drop in DD HM last week and making a caster sword for one of my casters...not sure which one yet as I already have an igneous blade caster modded on my monk.
most popular skins get caster mods a lot...especially that butt-ugly voltaic spear...went into kamadan the other day and I saw 3 people with this in trade:
WTS Caster Modded Q(x) Voltaic Spear Dyed Black 100k+(x)ecto PM ME
god I hate that skin...but back on topic, any insc. weapon with a skin you like can be a caster weapon. the only other green like the totem axe is rajazan's fervor in factions unwaking waters explorable. it is a sword.

IMHO, Rajazan's Fervor fits mesmers very well (expecially male ones)
That's if you restrict to green weapons. AFAIK, there are only three green caster weapons in game, which are the Totem Axe, the aforementioned Rajazan's Fervor and the Spirit of The Forgotten (an endgame spear).
If you take also rare weapons into account... well, there's a huge variety of skins available, so your choice depends on your character's looks (and your personal tastes).
Mind to show us your mesmer, pretty please?

Get any inscribable sword, axe, or spear and you can turn it into a caster weapon. Just go through the wiki and look at all the available skins to see what you think looks good with a mesmer, then buy or farm one and get the appropriate mods. The color, req, and damage are totally irrelevant, since a mesmer won't be able to do damage with any of them, which means that any cheap blue, inscribable weapon with the right skin will do.
Personally, I prefer spears because they reduce the risk of accidentally running into a target while attacking, being ranged weapons.

My monk uses a caster modded Colosal Scimitar, farmed it then bought the mods for 1k on guru.

Personally i prefer to make my own caster weapons , totem axes i dont like the look of but prefer something nice like firey dragon sword of enchanting which does look gd on a caster but damn weird on a sin lol.
I tend to feel totems are common choice due to them being easyish to farm and availability , caster spears ive yet to have one drop and in almost 2 yrs of gw playing ive had other weapon types drop with caster mod - anet give us more gold/purple casting spears plzzzzz lol

I made my own Rajazan's Fervor because I despise greens. R9 inscr broadsword.
I also have had Sephis axes, elemental blades, still have a couple VS's, mammoth blades, and other assorted martial weapons.
Whatever suits your character.
Spiritz....you can make any spear caster if it's inscribable. They dont need to drop caster modded, all gold/purple spears drop with inscriptions.

I have a question: when I try to put a mod on my weapon, I can't.
so, do I have to salvage the mods already on it? won't it break?

it's uninscribable
if you cant overwrite the mod then you are either using a mod for a different type of weapon, or the weapon you are trying to mod is uninscribable... some weapons only have their inscription as an inherent, unchangeable mod - truly old school weapons have all mods unchangeable.

on my chaos axe, i could add 20% ench, but not 'I have the power'
