Last time I registered an account it had to be done from the client, not at the plaync site. Not sure if this helps as I'm really not sure from your post what exactly you have done.

Ok, here is how you do it.
When you open the client you hit the link to new account/new key.
Create a new account using an email address you do not use on forums, for security reasons. You will need to provide things like your name, create a password etc.
The final step is where you input your key. If your "key" is too long it isn't the key. If your "key" is too short it isn't the key. The key will be listed as a series of numbers and letters with "-" between where the input boxes are - from memory (which could be wrong) there should be ~6 characters per text box). Watch out for O and 0, the first is an "o" the second is a "zero" and it can be hard to tell the difference with some fonts. The same holds true for 8 and B, and 1 and I. If you think you have an ambigous letter or number, try the corresponding letter/number. I cannot remember if it is case sensitive.
At no stage should you end up in a web browser. You are NOT required to link to a playNC master account, and since it is only a trial version I recommend you do not do it.
If it refuses to accept the key please give us the exact error here.
Your account name is the email address you register.
Your account password is the password you register.
Once the key has been accepted you have to go back to the login screen on the client and log in.
I hope this helps a little more. I am still slightly stumped as to what the issue is. I've never had a problem with trial keys, or account keys before. Certainly not a "doesn't seem to fit" problem.

The more important thing is to have a secure password - something that contains letters and numbers and is long enough (6-10 characters).
