Are the new books worth it?
Daesu
Here is what I think.
Flameseeker's Prophecies (NM and HM) = Junk exp.
Shiro's Return (NM and HM) = HM is definitely worth it, only 11 pages for all that factions. May not be as fast as faction farming though.
Nightfalls (NM and HM) = 17 pages, but HM gives 9000 LB points which is not so bad. Most probably not as fast as LB farming.
Young Heroes of Tyria (HM) = 13 pages, HM for only 4500 LB points. Meh...4 more pages for Nightfalls book above and I get double that.

Young Heroes is also worth 90k faction if you turn it in. Turning it in for LB points seems like a bit of a waste...

Besides, Young Heroes book needs HM on many of the 4-man team missions, which is a pain. Shiro's Return doesn't.

^ that is true, it seems overall shiro's return is probably the best book out of them all.

Not a good source of money
Vanquishing is better for Faction
But good to bring along when working on the titles.

Anyways, they aren't really worth going out of your way for, but if you're going through a campaign, they're great.

Every book is worth doing if you're doing something, or most of the items, the first time through.
The only one I'd consider redoing though is Shiro's Return in HM for the faction bonus, but I haven't found that to be as quick/easy/convenient as I might have hoped.

The only pain about Shiro's Return is Vizunah Square. It's quite hard in hardmode if you don't have the right build or get a group of henchies to join you. I keep doing them though.
Master Knightfall
Playing pvp is faster than all of that. Plus I earn zashien keys besides.

What people seem to be missing is that you aren't meant to 'farm' the books to max Luxon/Kurzick or whatever else, unlike the EOTN books which give a good number of points per book (allowing easy title maxing). The point of these are to get a bonus for simply playing though the game, but in addition can give you a boost of points towards the rank required to display the title/s in HoM.
So they were never MEANT to be xbox hueg rewards, just as a free bonus, so I suppose they're quite worth it if you're playing through the game for the first time in NM/HM or going back through for Guardian (although other than that, they're not worth the time).

A nice addiction if you plan to go through a campaign. Nothing more.
Unless you're among those brainless nerds who claim to be able to fill 4 HM Shiro books a day, they're not worth "farming". Rewards are comparatively smaller when compared to anything out there.

Books are too slow. They are only useful if you are going through campaign. Shiros return HM takes around 4,5 hours and there are some nice missions such as eternal groove HM on the way... Vanquishing gives more: both money and faction..

I won't bother with the Prophecies one, unless I decide to take a character through it that hasn't already done it.
Nightfall: Again, only if I want to run a character that's new to the continent. I'll stick to the wurms for Farming points.
factions: Since I'm using the Kurzick title for #30 (pre-survivor char ), it actually got me motivated to take ONE of my characters through the story line in NM. I don't think I could stomach doing that story-line more than that. But I'm spending most of my time vanquishing, since I've always enjoyed doing that and am getting some nice loot in the process. I do carry a book on my main for those occasions that I'm helping a guildie with a mission there.

I've done about 10 Shiro's Return books and I've learned each mission inside out but it's not as efficient as Vanquishing areas like Morostav Trail. Once you tweak and optimize your builds, you can complete it in 30 minutes with 2 people and 6 heroes. That equates to about 24k Kurzick Faction which is 48k when you donate.
Three runs (1.5 to 2 hours), add 144k towards your title whereas Shiro's Return takes 3.5 to 4 hours and gives only 120k points.
Books, however, are a good method of farming points with a friend who is on the opposite allegiance.

Well i think theyre 'worth it'...your not forced to do them, they are extra if your doing the missiosn anyway. They actually attacted me to continue doing the hard mode missiosn and therefore i earned an extra bit of gold/xpr/rep along the way. Its the retroactive thread all over again - theyre not forcing you (as ive already said), if you have all the books think ones you actually 'need' to do.
