Question about the 100g Guild Member Invitation Fee

I was always under the impression that the 100g cost to issue an invitation for a person to join a guild was a form of processing fee. The 100g cost is absorbed by the game economy. Tonight someone told me the 100g cost of the invitation actually goes to the person being invited. This doesn't sound correct, but I haven't been able to find anything that actually explains where that 100g goes. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance.

Whoever told you that is just messing with you. The 100g fee is a form of gold sink, and simply disappears from the game.

Afaik the 100g cost was brought in to prevent guild spammers from inviting every person in the area into their guild. I don't see why the money should go to the invitee; the point was for the spammer to lose money from doing this. Besides, Anet likes money sinks.

Ye, they introduced the 100g to prevent invitation-spamming.
I remember having something like 100 invites to guilds few months after the game came out ^^

The money finances the Mad King's 364-day-holiday on some expensive island.

The 100g just prevents people from inviting everyone in an outpost unsolicited, for example.

While it is technically a "money sink," I hardly think it removes any real amount from the game. I've been in 3 guilds in more than 3 years... But I realize some people change more often than this.

Yeah, it was annoying having to decline those every time I logged in. Nevermind trying to hunt down a guild invite that you actually wanted from the list.

Ot, the money disappears, it doesn't go to anyone.
