hi expansion and question

i am new very new

how dose guild wars work if i have all the expasions and my friend only has the basic game can i still play with him?

and how dose the past/present/future thang work
and how meny expanisons are there

Hi and welcome to Guru

If you have all the chapters and your friend only has one chapter, you will be able to play with him in the chapter that he owns - each chapter is set in a different continent/landmass.

The past/present/future thing is irrelevant - you can travel back and forth to the beginning and end of the game at will (once you have progressed that far, of course.)

There are three "chapters" and one expansion:

1. Prophecies - set in the continent of Tyria
2. Factions - set in the continent of Cantha
3. Nightfall - set in the continent of Elona

The expansion is called Eye of the North and is set in the same area as Prophecies.
