Trying Something New?

In my time I have made many elementalists, and many more monks. I've tried everything out somewhere or another, and I just could never pick what really "fit" me. I like Dervishes, I love support monking, Necromancers aren't too disappointing to play as... I'm not a huge fan of mesmers, and Warriors or Assassins were never my thing. Something about Paragons having magical returning spears upset me.

But I would like to try something new! Not a monk. And I would enjoy Dervish, but I don't want to play the intro of Nightfall...

So, what does the world seem to need these days? Just throw out ideas, I'll end up trying it out. It'll be crazy!

if u like dervs
then make a derv
stop being soooo lazy

u have no clue wut fits u
yet u never made an attempt to describe the kind of playstyle u like
u only said which classes u like and which classes u dun like
so its simple...make the class u like and dun make the class dun like

Try a ranger. Lots of choices to play with there: bow, beastmaster, or trapper. And, if you like dervs so much but don't want to go through NF, try a ranger scythe build. If you like necros, try a ranger touch build. Rangers can do lots of things.

I actually have a ranger who is currently at something like 440k into survivor. I would like to try some less Bow-oriented things with it.

Necromancer, play something less boring than a MM and you'll see the true power of the class (none of the blood shit btw- curses and soul reaping)

N/Rt - Sounds like a morbid way of supporting. I like!

So what are some benefits N/Rt might have over Rt/N? Would I not likely end up using many spirits, and I would likely prefer Soul Reaping? I would think my goal would be keeping things alive, but I wouldn't want my primary attribute to go to waste. It's a shame they have the same armor rating, so that doesn't factor in...

Rt/N

I think you should go N/Rt over Rt/N. Soul reaping will be very useful. While your objective should be keeping your party alive, keep in mind you can gain energy from enemies as they die. If you're worried about aggro, you'll reap targets well outside the aggro bubble, so there's little concern there. Also, should you decide healing as a N/Rt isn't your thing, you can move into other facets of necromancers as they are (as previously mentioned by dilan) quite versatile.

N/Rt gives you the ability to abuse one of the most broken concepts in PvE - Soul Reaping.
Rt/X gives you the ability to use runes and not being locked into a specific secondary.
As a player progresses - runes win. Players learn to manage their energy and SR becomes less appealing compared to being able to pump up one's attribute above 12.

If you are primarily interested in ritualist stuff - go ritualist.
If you are primarily interested in necro stuff - go necro.
If you are interested in messing around with secondaries - go necro.
