Is it worth buying the game if that is the GPU in the PC? I've scoured Google for benchmarks of the 8600GTS and I've not managed to find any that relate to this particular game. The screenies I've seen of it have a drastic difference between low and high quality, making me somewhat disinterested in the game if I can only play it at low settings. I'm happy with 30fps at 1280x1024 or higher resolution. Anyone have that card and game that can lend some insight? It would be greatly appreciated.

Other specs:
Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1ghz
4GB DDR2 800 RAM
XP Home SP3

From my experience, the game needs more CPU Power than GPU. Your System should be able to play it, but probably not at max settings.

your system will play it just fine at medium/high settings at your stated resolutions.

Yeah my 8600GT takes on most things at 1280x1024, except GTA:IV and Crysis obviously. Struggles a little in Far Cry 2 on high settings as well. I don't know about Assassin's Creed but I'm sure it'd run fine.
