noob question

ok ive been playing guild wars for about 4 hours and im at level 5 right now. i want to get better armor but in order to get it says i need tan leather or something like that. were do i get this? thanks

Crafting materials can be bought from "material traders", or salvaged from various drops, or found directly as a drop. The above links to the wiki will give you an idea of what salvages into what. Those links are for the "official" wiki. There's also an unofficial wiki:

Depending on where you're starting out, it may be (easier, harder [ slighty], or cheaper).
But I believe the 2 above responses suffice for a great answer.
