I know I'm going to get a "use search n00b" message for this, but I am making a new thread because the older ones are either too specific or not exactly what I'm asking for.

Earlier today, the update came, and with that, the removal of the JQ Cinematic, but for those who read the Dev Notes, something should have stuck out at them:

Ok, so Anet plans to make the winning cinematic replayable for FA and JQ. The beginning cinematic is already replayable - not an automatic cinematic either mind you.

But my request is to make this retroactive.

Currently, no Prophecies cinematic is replayable. Not a single one.

Factions only has the cinematics upon entering a mission outpost as replayable. This leaves out the middle and ending cinematics.

Nightfall is the same as Factions.

But this also leaves out the few Primary Quest cinematics like The Searing, Plague in Cantha or A Deal's A Deal. There are more of course.

So what of these cinematics?

Well, what I propose is to make the mission outpost NPCs able to replay any of the mission cinematics (upon triggering them the initial time). And for the quest cinematics - as there are 3 Prophecies, 2 Factions *this does not include AB, FA, or JQ cinematics; 11 if it did*, and 9 Nightfall non-mission cinematics; making a total of 25 cinematics that are non-mission, therefore non-repeatable without redoing whatever it is you had to do to get them - I suggest either the NPC who gave the quest, or the NPC who accepted the quest offer the cinematic.

Or, alternatively, there can be a "designated NPC" who will act like the Scrying Pool and offer every cinematic in that specific campaign. With this, the option to view cinematics may or may not be removed from the current NPCs, as it would be unnecessary. Note: This idea specifically has been stated before.

Also, counting all cinematics that are non-replayable, you get:
28 Prophecies
24 (soon 22) Factions
27 Nightfall
79 Total

79 cinematics that you have to go through missions to repeat, some of which are non-repeatable at all.

For the same reasoning as the reason for making FA and JQ's ending cinematic repeatable, I request - yes, a simple request - that the rest of these, or at least the non-repeatable quest cinematics.

Some are fun to watch, and should be watched without having to go through whatever you have to go through to watch it (whether mission or non-repeatable quest). Some people also like to make videos using cinematics (myself included, so yes I am biased with this). Others who like lore might find it necessary to rewatch a cinematic to see if something specific being sought can be found.

It has been done before, and will be done again - to a lesser extent.

This idea does not have to take priority, but I thought it should be brought up since Anet is going into this field of the game as it is. So, at the very minimum please make the non-repeating cinematics replayable via a NPC.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please do not go flaming because "I did not use search" - again I did but the closest suggestion was the alternative suggestion - which I believe would be harder to program (Not sure on this though), so I suggested a different idea. I would have "thread rezed" an old thread on this topic, however, I did not feel like being called a Thread Necro.

If a mod feels like this should be merged into an existing thread, go ahead and do so. (But really, if this thread gets merged, so should older threads that are similar to whatever thread this gets merged into).

this would be quiet handy, I for one would like to see some of the cinematics over again.
The idea of the one NPC, one for every campaign maybe, seems to the best, something like an historian, or magical wizard that can show past events

I'd prefer better cinematics. But sure I'll sign, why not.

to the OP:

Very good, well constructed idea - I give you 2 thumbs up for a well thought out post and I heartily agree with you.

And we've already got an NPC (well, interactive object) that can do this: the Scrying Pool in the HoM. It just needs to be changed so it can play the campaigns' cutscenes...

Actually Hyper Cutter, there are 3 NPCs that fit well to put into each campaign (one each) instead of using the Scrying Pool as the central NPC.

Prophecies: Vision of Glint in Droknar's Forge
Factions: Master Togo's Ghost in Tahnakai Temple
Nightfall: Avatar of Truth in Chantry of Secrets

Gonna have to sign on this one too just because people in groups want to skip out and while I'm not willing to remove parts of the story just for their benefit, I don't want to waste their time either.

I'm gonna /sign this, only so people will skip the cinematic in a group, since they can go back afterwards and watch it. Nothing worse than having 1 person not skip and you have to sit there and watch the damn cinematic you've already seen a million times.

Of course I want this. All campaign should have a place to replay all cinematics.

Most of them are just areas where you move and the cinematic kicks in automatically.

Some others require you to be in a certain area first. Those are the ones that require work, but the rest should be easily replayable.
