no, the warrior and derv heroes can use their skills much more effectively than the assassin heroes, so its better to just use a war or derv if you need a melee hero.

Assassins are pretty fragile in PvE, and not too bright or efficient, especially in HM. I'd recommend something very heavy in defense, like [Flashing Blades], or [Shroud of Distress] for melee. Otherwise, focus on [Way of the Master] and do something like a crit bow with [Disrupting Accuracy].

As has been said already, critscythe or critbarrage.

I tried running the new Palm Strike yesterday and it was just as much fail as ever. Anything involving a dagger chain requires far too much common sense for the AI to grasp.

Even worse, no one really helped the guy out that asked the question outside of giving him a partial Crit Barrage bar =\

The problem is as others stated. Assassin's hero ai sucks, they can't chain skills effectively they auto attack between casts. They are pretty much a useless slot. Almost all melee heroes suck. They switch targets constantly and end up spending too much time auto attacking.

The only melee hero worth it is usually a dervish because of their scythe hitting multiple targets. Stick with ranged heroes because they are overall more effective.

I've personally not tried any builds containing the new elites with Assassin Heroes, but I have a feeling Palm Strike + Trampling Ox could be a pretty easy and disrupting combo for a Hero Assassin to manage.

My initial thoughts were something like:

[build prof=A name="Untested 1" box dagger=12+1+1 critical=12+1 deadly=3+1][Critical Eye][Palm Strike][Trampling Ox][No Skill][No Skill][Disrupting Dagger][Critical Defenses][Resurrection Signet][/build]
I think the key of using assassin skills on an Assassin Hero is to try to eliminate the chain, or make the chain as simple as possible. Perhaps the hero would be able to use Palm Strike and Trampling Ox well enough to make it viable? Easy knockdown from that, stick in Disrupting Dagger for more interruption. Even then though, you'd still be better off with another form of melee, or even no melee at all.

Other options of course include Critical Barrager, which I wouldn't discount, I was just trying to think about skills Assassin Heroes may be able to cope with.

Heroes are reportedly good at hexing stuff. They generally cast the correct hexes on the correct foes, and so [[Siphon Strength], [[Siphon Speed], etc all work reasonably well on an Assassin Hero, and also have the benefit that you can start their skill chain with something like [[Black Spider Strike]; in other words it allows you to cut down their chain to something hopefully more manageable.

I'd advise trial and error. Just give the lil' fella a build and take it out onto the isle of the nameless and just observe. See what your hero does with the skills you give it. For instance, I found out that heroes using skills such as [[Falling Spider] seem to work oddly well; I wouldn't have thought this would be the case, I thought knockdown would confuse them, but actually they hit with Falling Spider rather well.

Lastly, I'd advise if you want to use your Assassin Hero as an "Assassin" don't give it more than one possible attack chain. For example, If I were to use Palm Strike, Trampling Ox, Falling Lotus Strike and Death Blossom on a Hero Assassin, My guess it is would go straight from Palm Strike to Death Blossom, as is Sod's Law - so I'd avoid giving an assassin more than one of any kind of attack skill.

Like I said before, and many others have also, you'll probably find that you wont want to use your Assassin Hero for very long, purely because other heroes just work better.

Hope this helped.

Can we please just take it as a given that discussion in this thread relates to Assassin heroes please, and not make ridiculous baseless assumptions on what people may or may not be talking about.

Please stick to the topic at hand instead of arguing with one another. Any more and this thread will be locked. But you'd think that someone asking for help on Hero Builds wouldn't have been such a hot topic.

once again, assassin heroes suck. like other heroes, they cannot play melee. They don't pick good targets, they dont kite, they overextend, they dont navigate objects, they don't switch targets and they don't chain skills. terrible.

Player assassins on the other hand are great.

your in luck, i've just been playing around with my assassin, and theis is the thir build that zenmai/anton can use effectively, took them to the fiery forest, and Rragar's Dungeon, totally own killing , rot wallow and Yeti

[build=Pie's Ass;OwBk0pe6XMuDID3JxgYG/FonbOD]

the whole group made up of what ever your profession is,
zenmai, anton, olias (heir to the master), 2x ele, and 2x monk hench.

actually i could leave out enduring toxin, since my main is all hex curse necros. hrmz.. need tweaking.

no runes yet, cos i am only testing them, so i think should work even better if i added some runes for health and boost the attributes points.

they both use daggers of fortitude +30 both.

Since I do not need Anton and Zenmai to hex their target,I've since find that this is even better, I use them to kill some quite hard to kill foes, titan abominables, Rain of terrors, completed finding a purpose quest without them dying once.

these bars are after some tweaking and I've since added a minor dagger mastery runes to both their head piece.
Anton is using Hanchor's Dagger (energy gain on hit, +30 health)
Zenmai is using Darkroot's Dagger (energy gain on hit, +30 health)

[pie's anton;OwBk0pe6XMujnTipwM+Qsw8CMAC]
[pie's zenmai;OwBk0pe6XMuknDAkEDEjx3VYY2CE]

note: players character should have hex, or it won't work.

btw, yay me! 3 of my character has all 26 heros at level 20s mwahahaha
