was wondering if anyone has tried it out?
*Edit* It's virtually identical to Avira Antivir, and it isn't free. No reason to switch if you already use Avira.
Lavasoft Antivirus
SnipiousMax
Tarun
And their "Lavasoft Firewall" is a very stripped down version of Outpost.

Try using ClamWin, might work good. There is a really great antivirus out though it doesn't even require on-access scanning. You can find it Here another great one here.
Want a firewall that is excellent, check out iptables. Works wonders. Wonder what all of this looks like while running
.
O.k. seriously, ClamWIn is probably your best bet. The major downside is that you have to manually click it to scan a file. Unfortunately it doesn't come with an active scan. You can easily set firefox to automatically scan a file on download though. That means the only things you will have to actively scan will be things you get form p2p etc. While this may sound like an advertisement, it isn't. I think it works good, and I know that it has been ahead of other commercial versions during several virus outbreaks because of the OpenSource community that supports it

NOD32 is the best i've tried, barely notice it running, and a very stable application. I also use ClamAV on my Linux machine its ok, but no active scan as tenetke points out. I would be using Nod32 on that machine also, but buying 2 copies seems outrageous since only 1 person uses it. You can make one purchase of nod32 for several machines that run the same type of os (Vista, XP, 2000 etc) but if you also own a Mac or Linux then you must buy more. The price is about $40/yearly, which isn't bad for one of the best virus protection systems currently available. Also much less bloat, and not an OS destroyer like Norton or McAfee is now.

I have honestly never used a virus scanner on *nix before. Then again I almost never sudo either.
