Hey guys, I have a simple question:
Where/how can I get sound effects from within the game?
Specificaly I want the sound that plays whenever you reach a new quest target, or your quest target changes (sounds like a woosh sound) and I would like that 'dong' sound that plays whenever a dialogue box opens up.
Possibly two more, but I cant think of any other small sound effects like that from in game at the moment.... (though if you can, i'd love to hear the suggestion)
Thanks.
Getting my hands on sound files from the game?

mmmmm sorry, I only know that you can buy the music at directmusic.com.
Maybe you could use really good speakers and record it with a mic?

There is a program that can read and extract files from gw.dat, but the name escapes me at the moment. You could try to find that.

It is if you plan to use the sounds in another game or project. I don't think it should be a problem, though, seeing as how we pretty much got the green for TexMod.

Actually, using the files somewhere else is a gray area. Using it in a for-profit project will almost certainly fall on the wrong side of the law (though whether Anet would care to go after you for such a small and insignificant sound is another question). As long as you don't try to sell something that contains Anet's files you should be fine, as the gw.dat file is freely available to be downloaded by anyone even without a guild wars account. Now even though it may not be illegal Anet CAN ban you for whatever reason they like, so if they do request you stop you definitely should stop. This is just what they can do though, in practice if you aren't trying to sell Anet's work as your own or trying to hack the game they wont go out of their way to start banning paying customers.
As for finding it, Google is your friend.
