I connect with a Hughesnet satellite. 3 days ago I started getting "bad response from server" for the Guild Wars web page and the guild wiki web page. I can access guru and other web pages with no problems.
I can access these websites fine with dial up. I asked hughesnet and they said it is not them (what a surprise). I deleted all cookies and history in my browers (tried IE, firefox and chrome) and am still getting the "bad response from sever". Anyone have any ideas?
My anitvirus, antispam/spyware is up to date. XP is my OS.
cannot access GW and wiki website

It probably has to do with the route that the signal takes to get there from Hughesnet. There could be a bad router somewhere along the way. The dial up would be taking a different route.
If it keeps up, you may need to run a tracer to see where the problem lies and who to complain to.

Thank you Quaker. I found tracert and will go from there.

Regina says it isn't a problem on their end in the Riverside thread. So far it seems to be isolated to only a few folks.

I am also on Hughesnet. I did a tracert and it reaches ArenaNet's servers fine. Their DNS servers are also reporting the correct Ip for their web server. Also people using ISP's other than Hughesnet are having the same problem. Some proxy sites I was using to access the sites are now reporting the same issues. Hughesnet has also stated to me it isn't a problem with them and are able to connect.
Seeing as ArenaNet's senior techicians, after 2 days of emails still doesn't understand that I am unable to access their web site, and still thinks I cannot login to the game, I don't expect ArenaNet to do anything about this.
I have noticed that some other web sites ban access by Hughesnet since it shares IP's and one person will get everyone on the ISP banned.
BTW what Regina said and what their technicians are saying is completely opposite. I received this response a little after Regina posted:
Another odd thing about connecting to the site, is their official ftp ftp.guildwars.com resolves ip to 206.127.153.151 which is exactly the same as www.guildwars.com but is completely accessible to me.
https://www.guidlwars.com works ok also. If you are one of the ones that can't access through port 80 I would recommend making your predictions using this address. Unfortunately https://wiki.guildwars.com/ is not accessable.

Thank you for the data. Aside form the high ping times, that Tracert you sent in looks good. Alter is one of our ISP's so the signal should die on Hop 13 as that is where our network picks up and we block trace for security reasons. |
