Take away the report emote.
Phantom Flux
The report emote has been getting abused since it came out. If your account gets suspended, even for nothing, you need to contact anet and wait 24 hours. Not good, especially if you got reported by some player who just likes to go report emote happy cause you wouldn't sell an ecto for 2k or because you used the taunt and laugh emote after owning someone in alliance battles.
The Lost Explorer
Anet wont ban you if you have a good defense and the other guy doesn't have proof, then its reversed and he gets banned, its that easy or maybe just maybe ppl should just stop being assholes to each other and just play the game.
MStarfire
While Explorer has a valid point about assholery, accounts get banned for the most innocuous shit. If someone reports you and you even said something as glib as "go to hell", you'll be banned, regardless of the circumstances. The system, at least from Anet's end, is rather Draconian.

Stop being a troll in game.
Personally, I haven't seen people say "I just reported xyz." And if it is in fact being abused on a large scale (there, of course, will be those who will report for no reason) than why haven't I gotten banned yet? I don't know why in game, but people get annoyed like crazy by me...
Maybe it's all the religious and political arguments I spark.
Also, if you are wanting the /report function to be removed because you are getting reported, don't do things that will annoy others. If you are reported unjustly, it will get removed (Oh noes! 24 hours! How ever will we live!). If you get reported for something small - like MStarfire said, saying "go to hell" - then you have a reason to take a break from your GW addition (obviously you have an addiction if you think 24 hours is bad).

i for one love the report feature.. never had it used against me that i know of. probably because im polite... even to those that are rude it just makes them more mad. i have found the feature very useful for runners such as droks and EotN... i get a scammer or 2 every few runs and its great i now have something to do about it. if enough people report you for anet to take notice.. you must be doing something offenseive to someone, you CAN just leave the dist if that many people hate you.

So what if someone is an asshole or not. Its not against the rules to get banned. However that emote does get abused and Anet has really given that idea a lazy thought.

Don't be an ass -> don't get reported -> don't get banned. For every "innocuous" insult ( "go to hell" is still "abusive language", use at your own risk) that results in a ban, there have got to be a ton of real abusers who have been given temporary vacations because of the system. I curse in game quite often, but yet I've never been banned for any reason. I've even been reported by people who took offense to me saying something in all chat like, "That's f***ing amazing!" or something like that (sans * of course) but nothing has happened. I've also simply been reported for no reason at all, or for having a relatively civil argument with someone. This tells me that ANet does, in fact, look at reports critically and not just auto-ban anything with a swear word in it.
Bottom line: if you're getting banned, you're doing something wrong. If you are that big of a social failure that you can't go two steps without cursing someone out, you may want to just shut off all chat for your own sake, and the sake of those around you. Alternatively, try taking it as a cue to change your behavior.
Operative 14
I always thought that the /report command just flagged the chat at that particular moment, highlighting the reported person (or something like that), and then someone later goes and reviews it. So it's the discretion of the Admin to ban or not to ban.
And, even if someone definitely deserves it, telling someone to go to hell is still abusive. I'm not saying that it's not warranted sometimes, but it's also not necessary; swear and fight back at your own risk.
I do have to say though, even if the report system is being abused, I think it is doing more good than harm. It's a heck of a lot easier to report bots or scammers or people who truly deserve some sort of action, where as with the pre-/report system they would usually get off scott free because it was too much of a hassle to report them for just an ingame offense.
I'd have to say /notsign to this one.

Instead of browning to stay as Anet's pet and trying to be exclusive by going against what every Guild War Players suggestions, just wait til some raged player abuses the report emote on you and suddenly you come back on here to say you got suspended for something innocuous stuff just so we can laugh at you and say, "Maybe it wouldn't happen if you weren't such a troll?" LOL!

Second, I am not an Anet pet. I just don't ask for a mile after given an inch... out loud.
If i get reported, if it is a short ban, whatever, a long one, Anet can suspect an email. ^^ I won't bother coming to Guru to QQ about it unlike half of everyone else.
Yes, yes, /report is not the best idea out there. But can you give a better suggestion that will also help reduce the amount of emails support gets for scams, botting, etc. etc.
A slightly abused /report is better than thousands of emails daily, especially since the report system is done by computer for banning and most bans probably go out to botting above all else. And if the report is false, email ahoy!
Come up with a better idea for the report system aside from just "removing it" and I just might sign one of your ideas.

Judging from my post, you can tell how ban goes for me. Do you ever hear my QQing about bans? Nope. "So what if someone is an asshole or not?" Say hello to Ban.

If you abuse the /report, in the end, you'll get banned anyway.
I heard a guy complain about Anet banning him multiple times and having some kind of personal vendetta against him... so he got around 5 accounts to avoid down time. The worst part is, after listening to the guy for some time and see what names he actually has, I agreed with Anet on the bans.

People that abuse the report function get baned, its rarely those that are unjustly reported that are baned.
After a leecher in AB was reported he then went and reported everyone on our side, 11 people!
Unless you do something they can instantly verify as being a banable offence it genrally takes more than just one /report to get you banned. The guy with 11 false /reports is far more likely to get the boot.

You don't get banned or being reported. You get banned for breaking the rules. Reports just notify Anet that you were breaking a rule. If they get reports and look into them, they will ban whoever was in need of a ban, if anyone. The people who use the report feature in the wrong way also face getting banned.
1) Stop being an ass to make people /report you.
2) Use the time you were banned to learn how to stop being an ass.
3) Learn how the /report feature works.

/signed Keep report emote during ab or pvp. Atleast you can prove if someone leeching. The other stuff is just based off an individual's political correction.

This feature works great.
This.
And this.
From my experience : I used the /report on leechers in AB, on a couple of serious verbal abusers (which got banned after that for a couple of weeks).
I have been reported one time by one guy for leeching in AB, before the starting counter was even finished, while I was lagging and he thought I was just leeching. I wasn't banned. Nothing happened, and I got all the faction.
He just abused the /report, but I wasn't harmed at all.
Another time I have been reported during a costume brawl by a french guy who got mad at me because I wasn't following his orders ("All report Mangione because he is not listening to me and this will lead us to lose the game. So he will get banned.").
Even this time I wasn't banned, nor anything.
Guess what? Futile things won't get you banned... I haven't got even a single minute ban for this crap.
Even if stupid people misuse the /report, this doens't mean that the reported person will be brainlessly banned for no reason. If you are banned after a report, that means that you did something wrong.
Do this.
This feature works great.

You won't get banned from one report. Unless you do something obvious 'illegal' thing.
Like botting. And I hate bots.
Makes Anet work a lot easier, to run a clean game. as far as possible

And for those recruit spammers, you do right. They have the Clan section in the Search Party panel, and people should recruit by playing with people and knowing them at least a bit, not by spamming.

I have never been banned or suspended.
Ever.
If you are sick of getting banned, maybe you should try to stop breaking the rules.
And yes, that includes the "no violent cursing rants" clause. There is no 1st ammendment protection against non-state actors and a.net has ever right to censor you. However, a.net WILL let a lot of stuff slide. Its when people randomly use sexaully explict language or violent threats repeatedly or in local for no reason/after no provocation that a.net bans.

If you don't want to be banned, don't be naughty. And for those that just /report away for no reason, then hurrah for them, they'll eventually get banned themselves,
Stop your moaning just because you cant abide by the rules which Anet set out for you, and if 24 Hours is such a long time, go sit on the naughty step and reflect upon your behavior.

Personally I haven't had a problem with the report feature before, but as was mentioned several times, it just sends a "report" of the incident and someone reviews it. If a rule was broken, that's when the person gets banned. Best thing to do is to not make anyone mad. If you think someone might be offended by profanity, just don't say it. If you're in a guild where everyone is comfortable with it, let it rip. But if you're surrounded by other people who you don't know, it's better to be safe than sorry.
