a card of the same size (and possibly power requirement) of a HD4670, with HD4830 performance, all possibly without needing a 6-pin PCI-e connector.

if this is all true, then nvidia better think fast and put out something to counter it.

ATI not AMD :P even though they are merged. Nvidia is planning on bringing out a gtx 285 which I think is a dual core version of the 260 and they are moving onto 55nm architecture. They are still working behind the scenes, but still mostly at the high end it seems.

Link isn't working for the "meanwhile"...

But that would be amazing, and I don't think the GTX 295 would be a counter to this. xD

If it's not due till way out in Q2 2009 then i'm willing to bet anything that's more powerful than that will have dropped in price enough to be near to that things introduction price. Similar to how the 9600gt was only $10 or so dollars more than the 4670 when it came out.

It's also very likely we'll see the market flooded with slower ddr3 models on the same 128bit bus, crippling the performance, with the ddr5 models costing noticeably more in most cases. Manufacturers love to do this kinda thing. Especially in the "mainstream" market segment.
