Monk hips: Is there a difference?
Evil Neato
I think yes there is, you can see the hips are just a tiny bit bigger on the right side with the tattoo pants on than with them off (look just above the loin cloth on the right hip).
What do you think?
Bigger hips (any difference), or the same hips? I think there's a difference, but I'm having a debate with someone who doesn't think there's a difference. So, say which you think is right.
Aera Lure
I think you spend a lot of time looking at hips, especially given your avatar.
Yes slightly bigger, but its a function of the way armor is applied.

it just looks like the clothlike piece around the hips making it seem that the hips are bigger.

All different armor makes the physical parts of the body different. You just showed one.
For instance, Tyrian starter female mesmer armor, the boobs are MUCH bigger than any other mesmer armor (or most other female mesmer armors). Shing Jea female rit armor, the boobs are bigger too. Male Warrior Elite Templar has a bigger gut. More and more can be seen through observation.
Nothing all too ground breaking.

Hips look the same to me. There's lots of sweets this time of year. Put her on a diet if your worried.

hawt.
The way you're presenting it makes it look as the hips are slightly larger, but it seems like the tattoo-armor monk is facing a different direction/is in a different position. I'm not sure if that would even matter, but in fairness, that is a difference which should or should not be looked in to.

Well, maybe your char turned around while taking the pic with the tatoo.
As if it would look to the right (that's the animation when you idle).

The character didn't turn. The only difference was putting the tats on and taking them off.

Go, go, go pixel counting!
(Although I really don't think there is a difference. You just get some extra material on the hips while the body stays the same size. Just magnify the image, put an object (or your finger - whatever) next to screen to mark the size and then watch the animation. The hips do not grow - just the transparent part is added - probably due to graphic restrictions of GW.)

Yes, there is a difference. Check out my male Monk, his arm loses some muscle in Obsidian Armor, compared to him shirtless (small difference in picture is due to breathing, but I didn't move him).
Same happens to my male Paragon in Asuran Armor.

Last time I checked, wider hips was a good thing - provided the rest of the body isn't getting wider along with them. Granted, some of the female models seem to have waist:hip ratios approaching (exceeding?) 2:1.
So ... the men look better naked (bigger muscles), and the women look better clothed (bigger chest/hips)? Seems like an exact reversal of reality.

GW armor changes bodytypes. If you want definitive proof (or are hornly male teenager), get female character and see effect of top pieces on certain region which, in some cases, go from A to D.

Groundbreaking research is taking place all over tyria at this very minute, all trying to answer the question... does my butt look big in this?
Shadowmere
yes a lot of armors change the overall character model...the one you've posted is rather small. the effect certain armors have on female characters busts can be quite radical, as well as male warrior chest pieces giving him a much larger gut.
That being said I think we're missing the biggest gaf with this, how the hell are we taking tattoos off and putting them back on five minutes later?!?

There is a small difference, yeah. Certain armors make a difference...some more than others...example...notice the size difference in your female monk when you switch your top, from Labrynthine to Obsidian.

All i can say is: Monks need nicer undies.

@OP: Don't worry, that's perfectly normal, it's like that 'one bp is smaller' thingy
Lady Lozza
Ok, I see what the OP is talking about but why is this a problem? It isn't like the monk is changing from size 4 to size 14, or even to a size 6.
Or is it the fact that only ONE side appears to be changing that is a problem. In that case, newsflash, no one is perfectly symmetrical.
This is just a really odd "problem" to bring up. And is probably a modelling issue.

It isn't a problem; in fact, I like it.
