Well, lets take some area,FoW for example...with lots of chests and mobs. So,question is simple:

1.Does game know your drops from the chest/enemy from the moment u enter the area or...
2. the game decides your drop at the moment u use key/open the chest or kill the enemy

I was just curious about this...

I would say option 1.
The thread Fay Vert linked to leads to this conclusion, as does the "double tome drop bug". (For those who don't know what his is; The double tome drop bug is when a chest is opened and a person gets like 2 elite monk tomes. Tomes are stackable and upon entering the zone the chest drops are calculated, if the chest contains 2 tomes, they stack, resulting in a double drop for person 1, and no drop for person 2.)

So by this logic, if manage to hack into this data, yes you could see in advance if something rare is going to drop in this zone, like ... hmm a MBP?

Yes, glad we start talking about this stuff again cause I have some thoughts I wanne share. I've been thinking for a while now about the post of the two brothers with the experiment. They indeed got almost 100% of the same loot. They entered the same place at the same time. My question is, how well were they sinchronised or not. Did they attack the same group at the same time or not. Same kill speed etc. I'm gonna read over that thread once more.

The thing I want to say is that when I kill large groups of creeps at once, I get less drops it seems. I've read other posts from players who experience this too. I play a lot of duo uw runs and I test the way of killing and time between aggro and amount of creeps a lot. I'm not talking about ecto drops, but the crap stuff. The stuff that botters like to farm.

I think the items are indeed set from the moment you enter a zone, but that some timer keeps track of amounts of creeps killed within a period of time. From a certain point in the equasion, you get less than the original planned loot because you kill too many too fast. Lootscaling on a hidden level.

Something like the soul reaping formula for energy, but adjusted to drops.

Tbh, I had noticed something like this happening. Solo 34 Raptor's in HM, and get somewhere like 3-5 drops from the entire mob.

Now go out and solo the snow worms outside Boral Station, and when I mean solo, I used both a Rit with Spirits and a Mesmer with ranged degen + damage, and also a Beastmaster Ranger (to evolve Jingle to Dire). In all cases nearly all (90%+) of the worms dropped something, when they died. Even if they died below ground to degen.

I'm pretty sure the drops are loaded when you zone into a map, but the 'loot scaling' kicks in if you kill to much to often, so you might not get those drops. I've had bosses drop 2 lockpicks, which screams to me drop loading on zone. As regards chests, I would also say the chests get loaded on zone as well.

However using a packet sniffer to see the data being downloaded on zoning, is against GW's TOS.
