Hi
I need help deciding between two graphic cards. I hace a HP DC7700p. Its ok however i cant play games of the provided Nvidia Quadro NVS 55/280.
So i need a good low profile card which will allow me to play GW and other games without problems. The cards are:
ATI SAPPHIRE HD 4550
OR...
XFX GEFORCE 9400 GT

also remember that these are low profile cards.......unfortanetly. I NEED LOW PROFILES! I am ordering the card a few days after christmas and I will seriously need alot of quick replys. Please recommend any good cards that are BETTER than my current choice. My budget is £70.

The card much be good at:
Movies
Images
Games
Other stuff

Thanks in advance

Edit: The card need to be PCI Express x8-x16 (prefer x16)

if I had to choose between those 2 cards I would take the 9600 GT 10x out of 10. The 9600 GT will allow you to do everything you listed, including play all but the most demanding games at very acceptable framerates.

There is a catch though. I can get the ATI one for free if i wanted to. My uncle runs a counterstrike community and he is sponsored by Sapphire.

I'd get the ATI card then and upgrade to something more powerful later ^^

For around that price you can go with a 4670 too. Between the the 4550 and the geforce 9600 GT wins easily.

The 9600 GT is about the same as the 4670.

For 30 punds more you can try something like a 4830 which is alot better.

i need a card that can last for quite a long time. I was thinking of getting the GALAXY 9800 which i heard is better. The problem is that low profiles are hard to find in the UK. Ive looked everywhere.

None of those will, I'm afraid... Low profile cards probably wont have enough juice to last long...

Well it depends on what resolution you play. A 9600 GT or a 4670 will play nowadays games at resolutions like 1280x1024 and their wide screen counterparts with no problems and surely guild wars.

Speaking for myself, I prefer to buy mid-range equipment and upgrade regularly.

I guess the 4550 is free but it isn't a gamers card. Sooner or later you will need a bigger case.

um, no. The 4670 is reasonably behind a 9600gt. You must be thinking the 9600gso(aka 8800gs). As that's the 9600 it can be equal too.

As for the Op's post:

If you need low profile cards, this is probably the best you will get. Even if it's a ddr2 model it'll still be faster than either you posted: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AOpen-GeForce-...86. m63.l1177

Indeed, the 9600GT outpaces the 4670 by wide margins.

Between the 4550 and 9400GT?

The 4550 will annihilate the 9400GT. Unfortunately, our budget offerings are sub par excluding our new mobile/netbook offerings.

To get an idea of the relative performance of the 4550, check out these charts:
