Trappings, Garbs, ... what are the for?

Anyone know what to do with all these ash fiend trappings, garbs, etc., besides just salvaging them? I know they all have stats associated to them, but its not like you can wear them. What do you do with them?

Salvage them. Save materials you get and sell them at Droknar's Forge.

I think what you're talking about is the "Armor: xx" on each piece of salvage armor/robes/etc.

In a nutshell, the higher the xx, the more crafting materials you can expect to salvage. The lower-numbered items from around Ascalon city and the like will only net you a few Iron Ingots, Tanned Hide Squares, Bolts of Cloth, etc while the higher-armored drops later in the game will salvage to more.

No idea if there is a chart/ratio for the amount of armor to the amount of salvage ... that would be one useful chart ... anyone?

i could've swore that i identified a purple one and it said that it had some +enchantment speed or something like that.

i guess there's no reason to identify these items then, if i'm just going to salvage them anyway.

if it's colored (blue, purple or yellow/gold) identifying it will allow you to determine the rune contained within the armor. Once a rune has been identified it is available for any and all pvp characters you may make. Furthermore, salvaging these colored armors will result in you getting the rune for your pve character. As such, until you have all the runes unlocked, it's a good idea to id and salvage colored armors.

What dargon said is correct. If the item is a colored item (blue, purple, gold) always give it a quick shot with the ID-kit to unlock the rune.

(also note: you need to use an expert salvage kit or higher to salvage a rune: using a regular salvage kit will only get you crafting materials)

What you are talking about is the armour pieces that fall from the monsters. They aren't for wearing. The armour rating on them gives a relative idea of their value and how much material they will yield. It also seems to indicate the relative lieklihood it will yield a rare material on salvaging. The maximum armour rating to any dropped monster armour is 40.

As a few people have said you can salvage them and get crafting materials. Unless you are just starting out and need materials I don't think it is worth salvaging the items (always with an expert kit or you won't get the chance at the rare materials) unless the armour rating is 35+.

Another fair option is to just sell them. At armour rating of 38 - 40 they can give you some decent cash on a hunt and then you don't spend a bunch of inventory space on saving the materials or wasting time trying to sell them. Always id them before you sell them. In fact always id all your white items before you sell them. Again this is only true once you get to the Desert area or South Shiverpeaks. Before that it's not as rewarding to do this trick.

If the armour is colored blue, purple or gold it contains a rune. A blue armour will have a minor rune. A purple armour may have a minor or major rune. A gold armour may have a major or superior rune. There are tricks to maximizing your money here too. The most simple is ID the armour and see what the rune is. Go to the rune trader and see what the rune is selling for. Compare your unsalvaged rune price to the rune traders. The trader buys back for approximately 25 - 30% of what he sells a rune for. If it's a valuable rune salvage and sell to the trader. If it's extremely valuable 4 - 5k + then try and sell it to a player.

Another thing about salvaging amours and weapons is what to do with the crafting items. After a while you will start to see what is valuable and what is just junk. You will learn what yields what. You can read up on this but really you will learn it just by practicing. Some craftables are better sold and others can be made into high demand rarer craftables like vellum, parchment, deldrimor steel, etc. If you like to salvage and sell you to players it is in your best interest to learn how and where to craft these items. This is where the better money is.
