running on a Vista 64 system
Quad core Intel (not over clocked)
4 GB RAM
8800 GTX (not over clocked)
GW has always run fine, then today it froze 3 times in a row. The screen froze, mouse still moved, music still played. I could get to Task Manager, which said that GW was not responding. I tried to cancel it out but could not get it to respond. Only thing was to turn off the computer.
This is new - any ideas? Corrupted GW.DAT? I ran GW.EXE with -image, it downloaded a few extra files but I have not tried it again.
I doubt that it is overheating.

Same system here with dual 8800GTX (one removed now). Had the same problem and after loading and reloading DAT/Graphics drivers many many times it turned out to be a update made in Virus software. It would also cause random disconnects.
As far as overheating...do you have a temp gauge to know for sure? I run below 32C on proc and 45-50ish on graphics ( I hates heat! ) Sometime a little thing like drives air flow is restricted which in turn reduces case air flow.
You might also check with support to see if they can offer any suggestions

I am running one 8800 GTX only.
So the graphics freezing (and nothing else) could actually be that the graphics card is over heating? I did not know that.
You know what, it might be heat after all. This morning GW is running fine (cold house). When I posted yesterday I had the case open (i.e. no airflow) and the house was pretty warm. Let me play with it today and see what happens. Thanks for your help.

For overheating, make sure all the fans in the computer are running and blow any dust and dirt out of all the fans and heatsinks. Check that the fans are running what seems to be fast enough too - dust and dirt can make them run too slowly to be effective.
Also, make sure your Vista is updated. I had random GW lockup problems when I first installed Vista, but they have disappeared after SP1 and subsequent updates.
