This game; Hemmorhaging players?
Harah Shadowstorm
Don't get me wrong, i've been a guild wars fan since the beggining, playing it in tandem with WoW.
But, its been over a year now since the last expansion to Guild Wars, and as far as i know, Arenanet isnt one to release any major content through patches like other MMO's do.
What are you guy's opinions on this? Im thinking i want to play again, but i dont want to be playing a dead/dying game. It seems most of the people i know that played it quit until GW2.

Ok, another one of these threads...
Anywho, there are plenty of players in GW still, find an active guild and forget your friends.

OF COURSE the game is losing players. It has since the start. Even WoW loses players and has to regrow the subscription base constantly.
OF COURSE there are fewer players than there used to be due to the lack of new content.
You have two choices:
1) rejoin and make new friends
2) don't rejoin
There are things to be said for both options. Only you can decide which is right for you. Asking us for advice is pointless. We don't know your situation or preferences.

So you think this game is making players...bleed? What?

There aren't enough people left that any loss could conceivably constitute a hemorrhage.

My $ 0.02? Its a fun game, still very much alive and kicking.

Let's put it in economic terms. Regardless of the game hemorrhaging players or not, Anet is not going to care because people have probably bought all the campaigns they are going to and since no one is paying monthly fees Anet has no incentive to keep them playing.
GW2, if it exists, is their next big payday and all they are focused on right now (save for a few people who are still working on GW).

Why wouldn't you want to play a 'dying' game? As long as it gives you fun, I see no reason to quit.
1) Play the game if you want to.
2a) Don't play the game if you don't want to.
2b) Don't play the game if you don't want to, and QQ about GW dying on Guru.
It's up to you.

AJD, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you, in a thread about the august update, make several posts to the effect that you were quitting the game because of the ursan nerf? Back on topic with the OP, there's still lots of stuff to do if you havent done it yet, whether it be pvp or pve. If you enjoy pve, roll yourself an assassin and go do some underworld speed clears (commonly referred to as uwsc), there are plenty of players in ToA to do that with.

all games loose players over time
with no scheduled content updates and a sequel in the works the situation wont improve

Why would you ask us whether it is worth it ? You either enjoy the game and want to play or don't, and don't play. Simple really.
As for the 'dead/dying', Does that matter if you enjoy playing and have fun ???!

My suggestion would be to go to LA, Kamadan, Ascalon, or Shing Jea district 1 and see for yourself. The game still seems pretty active to me - even when the festivals aren't here.

GW would have lasted much longer if it had just taken on the feature that most games offline take and that is randomness and nothing is ever completely the same or in the same spot the 2nd or 3rd time through the same maps. Having giant godlike monsters invading the main cities from time to time and laying waste to much of the population until they figured out they must combine to kill it and having it drop some unique items that wouldn't be seen elsewhere in the game or could be farmed by shadowform would have been great also.
Many of us have moved on and are playing other mmo's or mmorpgs or just other games in general. Of course the diehard fans will never accept that GW is on it's last legs and it's hardly as popular as it once was.
WoW of course is a proven winner and will still be around for many more years as king of online rpg and gaming in general. So, your best best is probably to just stick with WoW and wait for GW2 when you'll finally see something new and different we hope.

Who the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO cares if it is... its damn old now and its perfectly normal that not as many people play it. Still, there are plenty of active guilds, you just have to find them!

GW is far from being a 'dying' game. I played one of them - Lineage 1. Played for years. No updates at all (I think they finally got one now, 2+ years after it was announced) There were a grand total of about 130 people on the ENTIRE SERVER last time I logged in, and you can be sure that at least 70 of them were bots. Probably more like 100. They didn't even care to try to ban them anymore, since that was the only playerbase they had left. So everytime someone QQs about GW dying I LOL.

Peoples still get on GW when the holiday events shows up!

Honestly I think the game is dieing slowly. A ton of people I knew quit the game because it was getting boring/no new content/tired of doing the same stuff.
Hell, all I do is JQ now. That's only out of sheer boredom. If it wasnt for that, I wouldn't be playing.
Yes you can flip the OMG TONZ OF NEW PPL JOIN EVERYDAI card. But I'd rather see all the old people stay..the good old players that is...
Sir Skullcrasher
yea there is nothing exciting or new changes to draw in more peoples. Heck, I'm surprise that the new WoW expansion with it's promise of level 80 cap got in so many subscriptions for Blizzard!

Let me sum this thread up very basically.

I c wut you did thar Feng. Clever.
Seriously, just get on, play, see if you enjoy it, make new friends if you do, etc. If you think it's dead/dying, that's when you decide if you care.

GW, statistically speaking, is still one of the top 10 most popular online games online according to Xfire. It may be on the decline, but it is far from "dead."
People seem to have this misguided belief that every town in this game used to have like 4 districts or something. Nobody used to go to out of the way places like Magnum Shade, and they still don't.
