This week I'm buying a used copy of the Platinum Pack from someone on a local classifieds site. Is there anything special I'll need to do to get it to work? Can I register the key as a new account or do I have to use the login information from the original account?
Just want to make sure I get all the necessary info from the person when I buy it from them. I just finished the 10 hour trial a friend sent me and all I have to say is wow, the game exceeded my expectations at every turn and pass.
As a long time EQ player turned WoW, man does it feel good to get back to a real fantasy game!
Thanks!

ummmm...the game cd means nuthing
and the account info means everything
if he has already used the cd-key
it will be useless to u
make sure its unused (next to impossible to verify...ie works on trust system pretty much)
or jus avoid...
oh and selling accounts is against the eula iirc
it is possible that even if he sold u his account
he may be able to take it back
gw is already cheap @ retail
so used....it better be dirt cheap or its jus not worth the risk

You have to use the login information from the original account (if the key is in use and registered already (you should ask the seller)). I would rather you buy a brand new one, because you need to get all the info and such. Unless this one you are buying is brand new and not opened then you can register the key to a new account.

The reason we keep saying "buy new":
It is against the EULA to sell/buy a registered access key. You can read this info at http://www.guildwars.com/support/legal
Selling a registered access key (account) and then claiming it was hacked and getting the account returned by ArenaNet is a common scam. The person with the most proofs of purchase wins the battle.
Telling ArenaNet that you bought the game from the other person and supplying proof of that purchase just results in both of you being blocked from owning a Guild Wars account.

Okay, techincally this is against the EULA rules.
However, if you do this here is what you need
a) get his e-mail address that the GW login is tied to and the password to the GW account
b) get his e-mail address password (this is the most important step, otherwise, he could use his e-mail to e-mail NCsoft and "steal" his account back from you). He has to be willing to give up his e-mail, otherwise its likely a scam.
c) logon to his e-mail and change his e-mail address password to something else so he can no longer access it
d) change your GW password (which is a pain to do)

I can't find the original GW at any local retailers which is why I opted to go this route. Although after reading your posts I'm starting to wonder if I should just buy it online or off Amazon and have it shipped to me.
Thanks for the replies!

But all that is still a lot of hassle to go through. The existing account may also be in bad standing and there's simply no way to know beforehand. Its simply better to buy new. Or if you must, unopened and sealed.

best to buy it online as a new product
Amazon ..play.com ect have trilogy/compilation...depending where you live
