1. There is more than one server, but it is not split up by campaign. If you only have Prophecies, then you might be playing with someone who has all campaigns. The difference is that they can go to the Factions or Nightfall area and you cannot.
2. The Trilogy contains one DVD.

3. This game is super fantastic. I've been playing for almost three years now.

I agree that Guild Wars is awesome. I have been playing for 17 months, and I love it. However, a word of warning, GW is very addicting. Be prepared to spend many hours playing this game. Don't be surprised when it says, "You have been playing for 16 hours. Please take a break". Haha...welcome to Guild Wars and have fun.

I'd like to elaborate that the way GW servers work is a bit different from the norm. There are servers around the world and you are not bound to any particular server - you can freely hop from one server to another on the fly while playing, and the game remembers your preference so that when you log off and back in it defaults to the same server that you used before. This has the advantage that you can always play with your friends no matter where they are, provided that you have the same campaigns. Each campaign/expansion is a separate area and you can only access that area if you have purchased the respective campaign. So, if you have only Prophecies and your friend has only Nightfall you are restricted to playing PvP together since PvP is the only area common to all campaigns.
Furthermore, players on each server are divided into instances. When in towns these instances are called districts and you can move between them like you would between servers. When out in the wilds you have a private instance only shared between your party members and nobody else. This has several advantages over a shared world but lacks in the depth of immersion so ANet is developing GW2 that is supposed to bring together the best of both worlds.
GW is a pretty unique game. I like the innovations, some others don't. However, considering that I have been able to play the game since June 2005 (and I'm still playing) while paying nothing more than the one time price of each campaign, I'd say that it has been well worth my money

Agreed with above, no subscription fees means you can play whenever you want. If you get bored, you can stop playing for a while without any lost of money.
