My computer's specs:
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit;
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP *(512 MB);
Intel Pentium 4 2.53 GHZ processor;
2.5 Gigabytes RAM.
(Hard drive(s) and optical drive(s) are irrelevant).
The problem:
I'm trying to get Vista Aero to work with this setup. I've tried everything under the sun to get this to work. I've downloaded official ATI drivers; I've tried official ASUS drivers; I've done the ATI installation; I've done the manual installation, but I'm getting the same issue over and over and over: Going into Device Manager under the "Display Drivers" settings where my card should be is an error icon. I double-click for the Properties dialogue box, and the system reports the following:
Quote:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. |
I try using Windows XP drivers for this sucker to work, but that's doing nothing, either.
My research indicates that this device SHOULD work under Vista, but IT'S NOT! I don't know what I'm doing wrong!
I can't afford to get a high-end PC, so I MUST upgrade my current system. It seems, though, I can't even do that right!
I had an ATI Radeon 9550 card that was doing the same thing. I thought maybe it was my current card, but it turns out that this could very well be my computer.
On a side note, my motherboard DOES have an on board video card, but that should be disabled (Windows is not even detecting it under Device Manager).
I'm at my wit's end here. Normally I can find useful information on the Internet, but this one is eluding me at every opportunity!
PS: Please don't tell me to install XP or bad-mouth me for getting Vista or anything else; I NEED HELP!
