I've gotten this pop-up twice. It basicly comes up and says it scanned my computer for viruses and then says i need to download something to remove then because of the viruses is a trojan that steals bank codes and stuff. However i have not interacted with the popup at all so I know it isnt legit. I ignored it the 1st time I got it when accessing the forums on my PC, but then I got the same popup when accessing the forumns on my laptop. Also when it pops up a dialog box appears asking me if i want to run this download or ignore, so i tested it on my laptop and it doesnt matter where you click on the dialog box a windows message still pops up asking if you are sure you want to run this.
Anyways im here wondering what this is and why I have only had this happen when accessing the forumns and if others have had similar experiences.

alright. this is VERY VERY important. i know this virus very well, it's infected several of my household's computers several times. It is very very important you do exactly what I say or it will continuously infect your computer, causing popups, not only the ones requesting to run the fake virus scan, but also other popups. This spyware is extremely malicious, and is an anti-spyware detector spyware program.
ANY TIME that it pops up on you again, DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING, EVEN CANCEL, ON THEIR POPUP MENUS. press control+alt+delete and manually end it. next, it is very difficult to get rid of it for good. If you do not have AVG antispyware, i highly recommend you download it as soon as possible, it fights this program very well. and do it quickly, because as i said, this spyware is anti-antispyware programming. If not taken care of promptly, the spyware will actually stop you from downloading antispyware programs from the internet, and also stop you from even reading about anything that could fight it. I once attempted to google results to help me remove this thing, and it actually shut down my computer as soon as I opened the help page. Now, back to AVG. Run a FULL SCAN of your computer, not just a smart scan. this should catch it, and prevent it from coming back. If it does not stop it from coming back, you should get a professional geek to help you, because there's nothing anyone can tell you that could help from a remote position without having more information.
i really hope this helps, it's really a pain to have your computer infected by this thing.

Are you running any anti-spyware programs? (Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster...) If so you should do a full scan with them. If not, I would recommend you taking your pop-up problem to another forum site that I used when my previous computer had virus/spyware issues (bleepingcomputer dot com). They are very good at what they do. And best of all, it doesn't cost anything.

If you care for your computer, don't click anywhere on the popup but the [X] button to close the popup window. 99% of the time you will do more harm than good from allowing a non-reputable company scan your computer contents for ANY reason.

I too have gotten this pop up from Guru trying to get me to download mal-ware claiming to be a virus scan. It was pretty vicious as even when I tried to x out of it, it would keep coming up.
This needs to get removed NOW. Whatever it is, it is specifically tied to this site and one of their advertisers.

That is one thing i was wondering about too hawk; where it came from. For me it came up on both of my computer while looking at the guru forums.
To Healing Fool: I'm already paying for trend micro anti-virus virus protection and spyware protection, so i see no need to download more programs to do what its already suppose to, i know what your talking about is free but, trend micro has been real good for me so far.

The thing about spyware/adware and viruses is that not one single software program can or will ever catch 100%. 'Tis your pc, but when I had my problem on my old pc, I ran several different programs and online virus scans and some found stuff that the others had missed. Whichever way you go, I wish you good luck getting rid of whatever it is you may have hiding on your pc.
