Can I get banned/permed

Can I get ban or permban for calling someone stupid/idiot ><?

no you won't get banned or permabanned. They just say they will screen and report cuz they can. They could report you but Anet wouldn't do anything since people who say far worse things don't get banned.

Ive probley used every obscenity know to man even a few in all chat and im still here.

if u don't say something that can be blocked by the chat filter (honestly, who has it on anyways), then i doubt it is a bannable offense. besides, language violations are suspensions anyways.

From what I've seen in the three years plus I've been playing this game, I think ANet has a reasonably good handle on how to keep order in the community. There are hundreds, if not thousands of juvenile trolls IG who live to do nothing else but annoy and bait normal human beings and this is painfully evident from the chat windows. ANet looks at the chat logs in any case where a potential ban is being considered and uses reasonable judgement in deciding who should be banned.

I'll give you an example that happened to me yesterday. I was in Grenz Frontier, waiting to enter an AB match. As usual, the wait was really long and I was getting bored, so I thought I'd lighten up the mood and maybe give some folks a laugh. Also, there seemed to be more than the usual amount of childish spam and trolling going on. So here's what i said:

"Ladies and gentlemesmers, ANet welcomes you to picturesque Grenz Frontier, home of the interminable wait. Please enjoy your stay."

I've done this many times before and some people like it, others aren't impressed, and that's OK. But overall, the reaction is what I'd consider "normal". Well last night after I said this, one or two people (and I use the term "people" loosely) immediately started yelling that I was impersonating an ANet employee and that they were reporting me. Was I concerned? NO! In fact I couldn't decide whether to be saddened by the idiotic, juvenile behavior of these jerks, or laugh hysterically at the fact that what I said was obviously a joke, and at NO time did I say that I was an ANet employee, and that these trolls were incapable of seeing the humor in the comment.

Even if they DID report me, which I tend to doubt, I trust ANet to see what really happened from the logs and do the right thing, namely, nothing. If I do get banned, I'll have to rethink all of what I just wrote, and whether or not I want to continue to play GW at all, but, trust me, I'm not going to get banned for this.

ANET NOT: You are now banned for a period of 30 days! You will be fed 1 slice of stale bread and 1/2 cup of water each day. You will also be beaten several time a week by a Transylvanian dwarf...his name is Alfred.

Don't sweat it kid, there's been much worse done still not resulting in a ban.

I've seen incredibly disgusting racial garbage being passed off as normal speech and even that wasn't banned. Calling someone a stupid idiot? I can't see you joining a PUG and not calling at least one person in the group stupid.

I wouldn't worry about it. Perhaps they should be banned for threatening you?

In reality if you continuously report people for non-violations, you will get banned.

If the person emails support and says that they were offended, then yes, you can be banned for saying that. ANet have done similar bans in the past without people actually using bad language.

Here's a good rule of thumb--if you wouldn't say it in front of a nun, it probably shouldn't get typed out and sent. You are free to say all sorts of things to your screen, and even use a few creative finger gestures, however.

And yes, I do use the chat filter--I have younger kids who like to 'play' the game with me, and I prefer they not see that kind of stuff.

If someone's being a jerk to you, just add them to your ignore list.
