The good old "What should my main be" question..

I used to play a lot until I quit, but now I'm coming back.

I've previously played as a Dervish and a Ranger.

The Dervish is my current main, but I dont get accepted into many groups anymore because I guess something has suddenly changed and Dervishes are now "useless"

Anyway, most of my knowledge of the game has pretty much diminished over time.

I want a class that

[] Gets accepted into groups for UW, FOW, DOA, etc.
[] Doesnt have to heal other players. (monk is a no)
[] Can farm and tank if needed ( would be good )
[] good DPS

I'm probably going to get "warrior and assassin" as an answer, but i may as well post this to see.

Considering your requirements, your main will have to be an assassin.

Dont make a warrior, they are antiquated now.

Warrior or Assassin. Just look at their armors, and play the class that, IYO, has the best armor.

What you're looking for is Assassin. However, I'd personally just go with the profession I find the most fun to play as.

Assassin this, assassin that, you forgot about elementalist? fits all above categories

Everything is SF now adays and Eles cant maintain SF with out 3 skills a conset and candy corn and golden eggs so this why is always assassins.

Just so you know, PuG's think dervishes are useless because they are idiots/they fail. Guildies/reliable people/people you know > AI > PuG's. If you want to play your dervish, then do it. H/H will get everything done.

I use a derv as a main for getting titles and armor and whatnot. Its fine if your main is a derv, I would just use other characters to go to DoA UW ect. Your main character does not need to do all these things. Also go with the profession that you are the most comfortable with. I have played every profession and I seem to be best at being a derv so thats what I am.

You really shouldn't be asking what your main character should be. That is for you to decide and is supposed to be what you like and feel good with.

Geez, people once believed in witchs and now people still believe in things that make no sense but fit the current 'conventional wisdom' ... which has precious little to do with actual wisdom.

Dervish is a fine class, instead of rolling a new character, find a good PvE guild that will accept you into the areas you want to play.

If you insist on re-rolling, Assassin or Warrior seem to be ideal, and is a matter of style. I like Assassins' style 10x better than Warriors, but it's my opinion - pick one and play to feel what you'll like, what looks you prefer, etc.

well lets see, i personally like warriors because they are mainly brute force. U can play them in DOA but rarely anyone plays DOA anymoe(well the last time i went). I would go with a warrior but i guess i have to stick with everyone else.
