From the wallpaper slideshow it looks like LA and Kamadan are getting some CNY decorations too or did they get that last year as well?

Yeah, I think the Rat was from the fortunes only, and the dish reward at the end was the 5 crates of fireworks.

Looks like decorations will be added this year. Haven't attended the last two, so don't know if this is new.

I'm pretty sure the decorations in LA and Kama are new, because I recall ppl complaining that it was Cantha-only, then responses back that there are several events which exclude Cantha

I seem to recall last year that I kept using fortunes until I got 1 celestial rat, then exchanged the rest in for tokens for afking in 9 rings

A heads up to those hoping to get tons of lunar tokens to trade for fortunes - once you've got a good amount of lunar tokens head over to LA and look for Lucky Hochei. Playing rock paper scissors with this guy is a great way to score lunar fortunes and sugary blue drinks.

Sorry, but LA and Kamadan never had this event in the past. And I still believe it should be unique to only to Cantha, it should stay that way.
Did Cantha get Halloween + Wintersday decorations? No.
Cultural uniqueness should stay within the birthplace of origin.
Decorations out of LA and Kamadan please, thank you.

p.s the decorations in La and Kamadan looks out of place and lame imo.

If the mask looks anything like the animal's (Nian's?) head in that picture, it could be the best mask I've seen since the Dragon Mask.

I seem to remember that the explanation last year was that the lion mask is an inherent part of the traditional Chinese New Year and so they don't want to show disrespect by switching it out - as opposed to Christmas and Halloween that have other sources to draw from, and the Dragon Festival that is entirely ANet's creation...

...although, with a bigger and more active live team, maybe the Dragon Festival will have something different happen rather than the increasingly silly reenactments.

Wrong, maybe for 2008, but before 08, there were no such events in LA and Kamadan. The quote, "Canthans bringing this tradition to LA and Kamadan" is bullshit talk to me, just an excuse for the silly developers to use a unique cultural custom outside of its birth origin.
Did LA/Kamadan people "bring their Halloween + Wintersday" tradition to Cantha?

LA and Kamadan were redecorated in '07 as well. Just not to the same extent as the Canthan cities... as you would expect!

Real-world analogy: Chinese communities outside of China generally still observe the Chinese New Year, however the most impressive celebrations are almost certainly to be found in China. A similar situation occurs in Guild Wars - the other cities have subtle or less subtle acknowledgments that it is happening, but the main event is at Shing Jea. I don't expect that to change.

Regarding Halloween and Wintersday... I think the real-world reason why Cantha doesn't get these two is simply due to Factions being released at the wrong end of the year - it was Nightfall that they wanted to promote at the time of those events, so Elona had the focus. Ingame, however, I'd imagine that Canthans are quite glad that they don't have the Mad King showing up causing chaos and random transformations, while Wintersday may be kept a little more low-key.

Although, admittedly, it would be appropriate for there to be some nod for Wintersday in Cantha similar to the nods towards CNY in Lion's Arch or Kamadan - a quest or two, maybe, or an NPC people can interact with. However, another explanation for the lack of Wintersday is that, at the moment, Cantha isn't really a good place to migrate to - the Luxon and Kurzick territories are in constant conflict while Kaineng itself is overcrowded. Thus, it stands to reason that the Canthan populations in Kryta and Istan are going to be higher - and more influential - than the Krytan, Ascalonian or Elonian populations in Cantha.

look around you, where in the world do you not find a Chinese person? and why can't other culture celebrate Chinese New Year/Canthan New Year in this case? I think it is a very good phenomenon

Sorry but Lions Arch and Kamadan have been decorated every year for the Canthan New Year. All it takes is a simple trip to the guild wars website to find this out. Kamadan even gets two quests for it.
