First off I did try and do a search on this question but I had no idea how to phrase it to not get a ton of hits.
My question is; How do you choose a guild? How do you know if the guild is any good? What should one look for in a guild and what does a good guild look for in a member?
Any info or links to threads that have already covered this subject would be very appreciated.

Edit: Forgot to mention that this is a sub-forum of guru where you can look at what guilds are recruiting, what they want, etc.. as well as people applying for a guild. Good luck finding one

Avoid any guild that recruits by standing in the middle of Kamadan, Shing jea Monestary or Ascalon spamming "new guild, first members become officers".

What makes a good guild? That's rather subjective, but I think some of the things that make a good guild are: 1. A clear "mission statement" - what that guild wants to do and be about. 2. Some sort of code of conduct - hate to say it, but without this, guilds tend to get hung up on drama & quickly disintegrate. 3. A guild leader & officers who aren't on power trips. One of my newest guild mates came from a guild after getting booted from his old guild because he was in the middle of a vanquish when his guild leader decided that everyone needed to report to the guild hall in 5 minutes for an unscheduled meeting! And ANY guild that sends you a blind invite because they see you don't have a tag on gets no respect from me - they're just looking for bodies.
One thing that I'd suggest is to spend some time playing with members of that guild and get to know them BEFORE joining. Any guild worth it's salt will understand your not wanting to take your time in deciding whether to join them or not.

In general I'd say play with people you like and if they happen to be in a guild join that guild.
This depends a bit on what you like to do, don't join a pure PvP guild if you want to play PvE only for example. Also consider finding a guild on your level of play.
Joining a guild that does mainly high end stuff might look like fun, but when you just started the game and are on a level 15 warrior you can't join anything.
Now to the part: "what does a good guild look for in a member?"
That all depends on the guild's goals.
If my guild likes to own a factions town, we should focus on members donating as many faction as possible. When we want to beat rawr we need some serious and very experienced PvP players.
When we want fun we should look for players who have the same idea about fun as we have.
I think a good guild knows what kind of members they are looking for and try to recruit only those players.
So if you are looking for a guild, just determine what you expect from a guild and try finding one.
Be realistic though, a guild will also like you to be an asset and not a burden.

Thanks for all your help. I think I will get some more experience playing on my own and then go post in the looking for guild section.

theres really no rite or wrong answer
i only join guilds of friends or friends of friends
aks around n try to make contacts
of course it'd be nice to have a guild full of players that r in the same situation
whether its low-end pve, high-end pve, title grinding, farming, ta, ha, gvg, etc
