Welcome to Guild Wars! Be surre to put both access keys on the same account! If you make a character in the original (Prophecies), you won't be able to take it to factions until about 1/3 of the way through the story line. But the learning curve in Prophecies is more newbie friendly. You can always start TWO Characters, one in factions to run around plaing with your friend, and one in Prophecies for exploring that game.

You can install GW on both machines without buying additional discs. You just use the same log-in information (e-mail & pw) to access your account from any computer that has GW installed.

Welcome. I made the mistake of accidentally making 2 accounts instead of adding on to my original when I first got factions years ago (ofc i didn't bother to read the small white text in the message box ><, read the white text i tell you, read it!)
Btw, most ppl go wtf is a mesmer when in character creation the first time.
Well, they have the nicest looking armor in the game... And they focus on disabling foes. (with energy denial/ interruption/ slow cast/ attacking penalty etc..) The GW (PvE) world feels lonely with only 6% mesmers .
Yes you can play your account on any computer with GW on it. your information is saved online, not on your computer. So if anything bad happens to your computer and you need to reinstall everything, all your GW stuff is safe.
All you need is one disk (any of them) to install GW. It updates automatically when you start it up on your computer, so expect the first few days of going to new places to take a bit of time to load.

Welcome to the game and Guildwarsguru

Prophesies has a less steep learning curve, but if your friend is going to "show you the ropes", you might give Factions a go.
I know you just got the game, but you should think about getting Nightfall and/or Eye of the North as they will allow you to get heroes.
Heroes make you less dependent on finding people to play with.

Once you register your account, it can be accessed from any computer you install the game on.

I highly recommend you register both Prophesies and Factions to the same account (having them on separate accounts is useless).

I would suggest to you and your friend that you get Nightfall as soon as you can as well. There will come a point when you would rather have heros than henchmen to round out your group.
