If A-Net is suspending players for names like "Bimmer The Boy," then there's a serious problem with the reporting system. Which may just be since there have been several threads on the topic. And if that's the case, then this just opens up the whole thing for massive abusage! (That jerk won't come down on the price of that thing? - /report Ramdom Name A for innappropriate name!. That SOB kicked my from the party... /Report Random Name B* for innappropriate name!) Hopefully, it won't come to that.

On the other hand, maybe the OP & his buddy just made it up. It seems to me that when it comes to bashing A-Net, everyone just assumes the worst and goes from there. The thing that's missing from the story is screenies. Whatever happened to "SS or it didn't happen?"

On topic: NCSoft /Anet / whoever it is that runs their support and decides who should and should not get banned is awful at it.

Keep the report function but only make it so you can report people for botting and leeching.

Dont like a name? Well maybe someone doesnt like yours. Get over it.

Feel like your getting verbally abused or sick of spamming? Ignore them... letting it bother you is up to you.

Got Scammed? Your fault you're stupid, and if you can honestly say there is no way you could have known... learn from your mistakes.

Anet should then review the reports and figure out if someone is actually botting/leeching and not being reported for leeching just cause someone doesnt like their name.

People now have WAY too thin skin. People get butt hurt way to easily. Toughen up; dont go cry to Anet.

Well I had some one try and get me banned for A S L A N cause it is a Christian name and they are not and they wanted the name. But Bimmer? what idiot said that this is the spelling is just an idiot. Beemer as ALWAYS been the spelling just look at the vanity plates. no self righteous self centered idiot would put that spelling on thier 325i Give it a rest.

Who cares if its Beemer or Bimmer seriously.... if you think your "in" cause you know its bimmer... get over yourself.

And having Bimmer in your name is not advertising and shouldnt be ban-able, other wise every ranger with the name legolas, every sin with the name naruto, every one whos got the name sponge bob, etc should be banned.... this logic is just stupid (even though I hate sins named naruto and rangers named legolas)

this is true we have no proof of this happening except for the fact that we have a login screen saying that i have been suspended? :S

This may not be so bad, I mean, how many of you always wanted to change their chars names? I know I do, got some 3 years old ones and dont want to delete them but would like to change the name, so, do you think it may work? If I just could get some ppl to report my older chars for the names to change them afterwards.

btw it is impossible to contact anet about changing character name...

i thought to myself that i had heard some stories about people changing their name by getting "name banned" and then sending a request to anet/play NC about changing their names to help guild wars getting cleaner names

so why not try it out now that i am banned/suspended?

i am trying to do so at the moment and i haven't even got a reply saying no to the offer of me changing my name so this "mistake" would not repeat it self (and alot of ass kissing)

(soon i have waited a full day [24 hours], but still no answer so now i have tried to send the request multiple times to see if they will notice it)

(will be updated if I ever get an answer even if they deny to change my name)

not saying the rumors/stories/fairytale/(what ever u feel like calling them) aren't true just testing how easy it is

Very interesting experiment.

I once had a similar idea but didn't want to risk my own account in anyway.

My idea was to do with name changing, i'd like to change a lot of mine and wondered if enough innapropriate name reports would get the ban then force me to change the characters name.

So did bimmer have to then change or delete the characters name?

We dont know yet, Bimmer wrote several emails to anet, but still no reply.

but http://www.urbandictionary.com actually has more results of "Beemer" than "Bimmer", but some say that a "Beemer" is a motorcycle of the brand "BMW" and "Bimmer" the car is a of the brand "BMW".

but if you take and google search "beemer" gets 1.820.000 hits (don't know how many is about the car brand)

I do agree though that this is rediculous. NCSoft should better check names before passing out bans. And even IF the name is a nickname for some brand, who cares??? Hell, if I want a character named Chevrolet Impala, I should be able to. It's not offensive anyway.
Come to think of it: Ford is a normal name, but also a car brand. General Motors could be a person called Motors who happens to be a general. So I don't think you got banned because of a possible link to BMW. I think it's a stupic script that banned you. And yes, that's just stupid.

Hey, you could try the suggested improper name thing to change your name back to Bimmer Boy later. How about Rimmer Boy? (j/k, you wouldn't want to get stuck with that name)

Someone from the company may hear about their company name being used without their "approval" (by word of mouth, I now that it's unlikely to happen, but still possible), and then decide to "threaten" the game company (legal action would be difficult to succeed, but it's not about winning rather than costing money to the game company to make them bend). For many companies, brand name and reputation means concrete money and they're quite risk-avoiding when it comes to the use of their names, even if I agree that it's pretty stupid...

How do you determine it is a false report? Does it have to be intentional false or is it enough if it is a mistake? How do you deal with all the different languages? Is it a false report if I report a name that is not inappropriate in Englisch but in Polish?

As Regina already stated, the op is full of shit. When you get banned for a unacceptable name, you don't get to keep the name. But even though he says he was banned for Bimmer The Boy, he's logged in this mourning with that character.
